Ok here is the deal.

I ordered a PVR-150 from the egg and they sent me a 150MCE instead.
I have tried several times to install knoppmyth, and I have followed the multiple guides for installation but no avail. I have tried all the different settings i could think of. I get the GUI working and everything, but I can't watch live tv, I select it and nothing even happens. No black screen, no static, no nothing. I don't think that I am installing the card right, but i am not sure.

Is there some trick for getting this to work? Is there a certain log file i need to look at to help you guys out? If you guys could give some things to look for and/or some installation tips I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks for your time.

Extract the "ivtv" section as descriubed here and post it. http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php? ... ngLogFiles

If the tuner type is unrecognized try this to upgrade the ivtv drivers. http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=CompileIvtv

There doesn't seem to be any errors, but I am pretty nub when it comes to this stuff.

Thanks for responding so quickly.

When MythTV's setup ran, did you define the card? Did you create and bind a source to the card's input? Stop the backend and run mythtv-setup to correct, the restart the backend (<alt><2> and <alt><s> then <alt><1>).

Ugh. Looks like our friends at Hauppauge strike again...

Oh no! Not "type 4", that never works!

As expected given the above...

You maybe able to force the tuner type and get this limping along. Please search for "type 4" with me as the author. I was just helping someone with this same issue earlier this week.

yes I defined the card aswell as bound the card to cable/tuner input and did the backend thingy.

Well the Egg sent me the wrong card so I think i will try to get them to send me a different card. Is that right course of action?
Should I try to get a new card?

What is the type 4 thing all about?

Did you search for it like I said to? I just explained this to someone else, and setting the tuner type worked for them. Here are three of the most recent previous discussions:

http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=11047
http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=9621
http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=9067

OBTW - A "tuner type not set" error qualifies as "unrecognized". I'm pretty sure that the user who got this working had already done the ivtv upgrade as recommended earlier. If just setting the type as described in the linked posts doesn't fix it, then the upgrade is probably necessary, if not sufficient.

Did you do the whole ivtv driver upgrade procedure? New driver, new firmware, redo the configuration, ... If you have things setup so that you can cut and paste from your browser to a shell session on the KM box it takes all of about 5 minutes.

ok after finally sitting down and try all the steps, I got it to work woohoo

Thanks for your help.

I now get picture but it is really crappy.
I am running this setup on a 40 inch DLP TV through a VGA input
I think it may have something to do with the resolution but I am not sure.
If anybody has any ideas for me, I would love to hear them.
I will sniff around and try to find a solution on the forums.

Thanks again guys for your time.

There is a new picture quality page up on the wiki you may want to look at.

I saw that page last night after my post .

I checked all the connections and i am using the same cable i had plugged into the tv.

I am not sure how to change the resolution to eliminate that as a problem
