I do think that it should be known to the folks who actually do care about their archived shows and may not have the skill, inclination and/or tenacity that this upgrade does have the potential to be far more complex and time consuming than they might assume.

The facts remain I had a good running knoppmyth install on tier 1 hardware, I did an upgrade and my box no longer worked. I spent an hour or two scouring the resources here to fix one problem and then encountered another.

Being that I have another hard drive and am not willing to spend a lot of time to keep my archived content, I cut my losses and did a fresh install. I figure if I regret losing the content before the new hard fills up, I can go back and continue the battle of recovering it. If not, when the new hard fills, the old one gets wiped and added to an LVM with the first.

This is not a slight on the hard work of the developers. I appreciate this product quite a bit. I continue to use Knoppmyth. I certainly have the required skills to implement my own mythtv install on Linux, but I actually don’t care a whole lot about TV, and am an extremely busy person. Knoppmyth saves me a lot of time and makes doing this (PVR) worth the time investment when otherwise I’d just forego a PVR altogether. This same line of logic is why I’m not willing to spend more time getting my upgrade to work.

I’m not looking for a solution to my issue – just sharing my experience so anyone else coming at this from the same point of view as I am will give doing an upgrade the proper consideration.

Thank you all for your hard work!

-Mark
