I'm new to Linux and Mythtv but have successfully installed KNoppMyth on an eMachine (model T3304) and a Hauppauge PVR-350 card.
Had initial problems with the Nvidia drivers but got around that problem by ugrading the drivers using "Wget.." and "sh ./NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-8756-pkg1.run" (as instructed somewhere on this forum)

and voila! things started working..

However, I was wondering if I can now run my knoppmyth box without a monitor(ei; only connected to my TV)...

At present the myth front-end screens only appear on the Computer screen, and video output only on the TV. how can I redirect Myth screens to the TV..?

any suggestions would be appreciated...
Thanks in advance.

I don't quite understand... Sound like you have dual head working? Is that accurate? With which card connected to what? I'd recommend using the nVidia. There is a sample XF86Config-4 included in /etc/X11.... Please search for greater details.

I have a VGA flat panel monitor connected to the PC(VGA) and a regular TV connected through the TV out(Svideo) of a Hauppauge PVR-350.

When i view the program guide, or any front-end screens, it displays on the VGA monitor
and usually blanks out the TV screen...
I would like to redirect all output to the TV..

I've compared the XFree86-4 and the XFree86-4.pvr350-tvout.sample and there are allot of diffrences.. Are you saying I should just copy the sample over the XFree86-4 file..?

there's more to it than that, you should probably use the pvr350 setup script.

When you installed R5C7 it should have asked you if you wanted to setup your pvr-350's TV out.

You are right.. But the screen hurls by so fast. All i could see was something about <CTRL><alt><F1>...

I am running the front and back-end on the same PC. During the installation i had this PC connected to both a TV and a VGA monitor.<which i gather is the only way to install KNoppMyth..(?)>

MY goal is to DISCONNECT this VGA monitor and redirect all video output( MYth config screens as well as Video content) to my Television, though the PVR-350..And use my knoppMyth PC as a video appliance(much like a VCR or DVD player)..

I've tried the PVr350-setup command and got errors at reboot, complaining about X not being configured right.. and leaving me with no way to initiate Mythtv...

The only thing I havent tried is to do a fress install with my VGA adapter disabled (head-less) and see if the install process is smart enough to figure it out on its own..

Do a fresh install of R5C7 with the VGA monitor still attached. After the reboot it will ask you if you want to configure the tv-out for the pvr-350. It will then stop and wait for you to enter yes or no. It will not hurl by.

Also make sure to answer no when asked about using splash screen at bootup. That feature will brake the pvr-350 script.

Hi plaf,

I loved running KM on the e-machine :) It is the only box that I have found so far that will allow audio mixing. To hear what I am saying, start up watching tv then do alt + x and try aplay /usr/share/sounds/beg.wav You should hear both tv and the famous tune. Sadly, mine had a bunch of caps loose the tops..

Anyway, tjc just posted where to find the script helping another fellow. R5C7 has the script to switch all output to the tv composite (dongle yellow connector) As was also mentioned, if you have bootslpash enabled that will need to be accomidated. There are two ways, both simple but must be done as root. Best is to edit /etc/lilo.conf and change vga=normal. then at the # lilo -v to reload it. Reboot.

After the reboot, run as root # sh /usr/local/bin/setup_350.sh , have a tv monitor / rf modulator as it switches and you are then in the dark :)

Mike
