I have Two D-Link Cards
(chipset DL10038D)
DFE-530TX+

Both Nics came out of the same computer. Computer was running these 2 nics with IPcop.

Anyways...pulled the PVR-350 Card, and put in a NIC

Same Results
dhclient failed
netcardconfig -- manually configured an address
unable to ping 192.168.1.1

I'm at a loss...

something strange is going on. It is looking less like a usb nic issue and more like a job
for a witch doctor.

the MAC address starting with 00:10:60 belongs to vendor called Billington.

--------- The lockups and kernel panics being caused by usb-nic driver would be enough
--------- for me to give up using it.. It would be too much of a pain.

what I would do..

verify hardware - test usb-nic on another machine
verify cable - same
verify connection - link light?
verify port on router - do other devices work on that port?

if all those check out -- then maybe something very subtle going wrong with
your MB.

USB works on my windows box that I'm typing on now.
Cable was taken off of a working computer, but I built a new cable. Same Port, Same Cable except my notebook on the other end (which does work) -- Works...Cables not the problem, nor is the port.

Something a little screwying with the motherboard I guess...

btw, just to take the RAM out of the equation, I have a pair of 256MB DDR266 sticks here (instead of the Single 512MB DDR333 stick that was in the computer). No change in behavior.

See http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=11215 where I had to fiddle with modules. My box is different (Shuttle XPC SB51G) but this made it reliable for me and you may have a similar problem.

I also noticed that sometimes the BIOS did not detect the onboard NIC it seems random but I noticed that the problem never happened with a usb kbd, only with traditional cable - since the smoke got out of the powersupply (that's how I managed to become its owner bye the way) this may be due to that fault, or the barbarian that tried to repair it with pliers and a small hammer. Anyway, I flashed and fiddled and disabled and redetected and... All’s well now. I noticed in the BIOS notes that certain combinations of graphics and receiver cards caused new BIOSs to be released, so it would be good to get the latest.

I'm away for a while, but when I get the box, I'll give it a shot before I give the Shuttle to my Dad for a workstation and use his older workstation as a test box.

Appreciate it!
