Hey guys,

First time using knoppmyth, I've run mythtv before installed from packages on redhat (jarods guide) and gentoo. After moving around physically (different states, apartments, houses) I'm ready to set my stuff up again. Last few times I setup myth it took me like 2-3 days of configuring and tinkering so i figured i'd give knoppmyth a try (was still in its early beta stages the first time i setup myth.

using a pvr250, I've used this card for my past setups but I've always had it setup with an irblaster+cablebox, at this current location my cable is just from the tuner. so this is my first time using the tuner on the pvr250 (which is where my problem is i think)

First let me say knoppmyth was awesome, so straight forward it was great, I'm familier with myth already so I knew exactly what it was asking me during configuration which was awesome, but even if i had no experience i think it was really straight forward, I installed it directly from my tv in my living room, I didn't even plug it into a monitor, it took me literally 15 mins and it appears everything works out-of-the-box almost immediately, everything seems to be configured properly except my tuner. when i goto watch live tv, i get a signal that looks much like you are tuning to a channel that you don't get. just an extremely unfiltered set of prime colors sometimes you can make out a bit of the images and see a tv signal but it doesnt tune the channel properly.

i followed the directions to extract the log info for my ivtv, and they are posted here

Code:

i also noticed scrolling a bit further down on messages this error repeats quite a bit

Code:
Aug  9 01:53:36 myth kernel: ivtv0: All encoder MPEG stream buffers are full. Dropping data.
Aug  9 01:53:36 myth kernel: ivtv0: Cause: the application is not reading fast enough.

Aug  9 01:53:36 myth kernel: ivtv0: Cause: the application is not reading fast enough.

currently i have it set to Tuner 0, i have all my guide data in place, changing the channel doesnt do anything for me, but i can't tell if changing the channel is doing anything at all. what i do know is changing the input (to svideo or composite) seems to work just fine (i lose my image and gain a black screen which seems right) so i'm pretty sure my wiring connection is correct, and we are using the tuner (hence the bit of signal i see) but my settings are just not right.

looking for any insight on this, chances are this topic has been talked about before, I could not find any information on it, if this is something that was covered , could someone just kindly redirect me to the appropriate thread/wiki.

Thanks

On a side note, I have not manually installed any hauppauge firmware for this project. I don't know if that is required but I do remember that when Axel tried to package the firmware a few years ago that he got into some copyright problems and was unable to package it, and it needed to be manually installed.

However in my logs I don't see anything about missing firmware at all. I remember ivtv being pretty clear about missing firmware (when you were missing firmware)

thanks again

There is no need to install additional firmware. I have permission from Hauppauge in regards to the matter.

Thanks, that clears that up. Any ideas on what else may cause my issue?

Nothing I can think of at the immediate moment. I'd suggest taking a gander at the ivtv archives.

Sounds almost like a frequency set issue to me, especially if you've never used the tuner before. See the troubleshooting pages on the wiki: http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=TroubleShooting Also take a look around for tuner configuration walkthroughs...

Hi,

If I recall correctly you also have to do the television setup in the setup/utilities. And be sure the backend is running.

Oh, donkey snot. :( Thanks Mike, I keep assuming that everyone has read the upgrade hints here: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=10116 (Pay special attention to the first bullet point under After the phase 2 setup:.) or the driver upgrade page here that it points you to: http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=CompileIvtv

Also, why are you using that old version rather than R5C7?

Hey thanks guys, will be excited to try this stuff tonight.

the reason for using the old version is because thats what i had. exactly how old is it?

i downloaded it with the full intention to install it the following day, well one thing lead to another and i got sidetracked with wife projects, and now i'm finally getting to play around.

i didnt realize it was THAT old

You'll be _much_ happier with R5C7.

Hi,

Which version exactly are you setting up and what is the overall plan in the usage? One thing that R5Bx and above don't do well is record your old home movies of the wedding, kids etc. I find it near impossible to get a clean record start so I stopped upgrading my main system at R5A30 just because of those features. I do however "play" with the R5B and above for general useage on a different "non production" machine. R5C7 works very well, altho if you wait a few more days, Cecil mentioned not long ago of an upcoming new release.....

I do not plan to record old home movies.

with that being said, i downloaded R5C7 last night, reinstalled completely, updated drivers. I've now lost my scrambled (wrong frequency?) tuner channels, instead i have a black screen (like its disconnected or using the wrong input?)

i have compiled the following dumps from messages, if any of this means anything to anyone please enlighten me.

http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=CompileIvtv

HI,

I have never had the issues you are experiencing and other than to try to make a "newer" pvr150 work have never had to update ivtv. R5C7 and a pvr250 should be happy together.

Go for the obvious stuff first as in the setups, check them all. Only thing that has occured for me, is depending on the hardware, sometimes the XF86Config-4 needs a tweak. I use old "junky" computers mostly so I expect an issue here or there :)

What kind of a setup are you running? All we know is a pvr-250. Maybe there are some pointers the other folks may have run accross based on your hardware.

Mike
