Hi

I'm having a problem with white noise on about half of my tv channels (bt878 card). When line is unmute the sound is okay (but ofcourse not in sync with the recording) so the signal is correct. Any idea why this happens on only some channels ?

Best regards

Last time someone was reporting an issue like this it turned out to be some combination of a weak signal (bad connections at the cable box) and the wrong frequency set (us-cable vs. us-cable-irc which are very close). Aha! Here's one of the threads http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=6778. Please note that the solutions used here are potentially out of date, since there's now a real IRC set, you don't have to fake it anymore.

First thing to try is to check your cables for poor connections (use screw on not push on), cascading splitters (use a single n-way splitter), and cross talk on your audio cables (moving the audio cables away from the other cables and the back of the TV).

Then try fiddling with fine tuning on a couple of the noisy channels to see if that helps. If it does and they're off by the amounts shown, then switch your frequency set.

Thanx i will give it a try.. only thing is that the signal looks okay and the unmute, not recorded, sounds okay. I'm using europe-west, as i live in Denmark, i have at the moment selected the all the channel frequencies (provided by cable company) instead of just selecting a channel.

Best regards

Hi

Disabled the onboard soundcard, and upgraded it to a Audiotrak 7.1LT and upgraded the Alsa to 1.0.11.. now it works!

Kim it might be a good idea to set at least a minimal location in your profile. Something like "PAL/europe-west" would be plenty. Your written English is so "American colloquial" in spelling, idiom and usage that it never occured to me that you didn't live in the US. ;-) Heck, that you weren't born and raised in the northeastern US.

Hi TJC

Updated profile... the "Alsa to 1.0.11.. now it works!" has a few problems.. xine and mplayer sounds like mickey mouse when playing 48khz sample rate. Alsamixer shows that it shifts from 44.1 to 48 when playing a dvd, so i quess something is wrong. Solution right now is mplayer -srate 44100 and xine is set to force audio sample rate to 44100 also. Only annoying thing now is a high "klik" "pop" noise when mplayer jumps 1min forward (PageDown key)... maybe alsa have a fix in the latest releases

Best regards

After solving a wireless lan driver problem the problem has gone! Disabling SMP and PREEMPT, and recompiling the kernel did it..

Best regards
