Hey all,

I'm not even sure what to search for -- it's hard to define the problem. I noticed over the past few days that only 1 or two of my schedules have been showing up on the Recorded Shows list, and I couldn't figure out why. I checked the upcoming list, and lo and behold it only lists 2 or 3 of the ~20 shows on my schedule! I don't even see previously-recorded entries; nothing shows up at all, and I know there are episodes playing in the next week or two, since they are visible in the Program Guide.

I can't pinpoint when this happened first, but the wierd part is that now if I go to the schedule list in MythWeb and click on a schedule, then "Find Showings of this Program", it lists several upcoming episodes. Then, if I click on a listed upcoming episode, the screen that comes up has "Never Record" selected, just as if I had never created a schedule for it in the first place. I can then change it to "Record any time on any channel", save changes, and have TWO identical-looking entries in my Scheduled Programs screen. How wierd is that?

I don't know much about Myth internals, but I'm vaguely aware of a ShowID field that exists to disambiguate programs that have the same title -- could that have changed or something? I mean, maybe Zap2It changed the ID? Is there any way to convert the system to record based on title alone, ignoring ShowID, if that is in fact the problem? I generally prefer not to dick around in SQL, because I know just enough to be dangerous, but not nearly enough to fix whatever I break. Anybody have a suggestion?

Check your db for errors and check the mythtv log.

Somthing like what you are describing happened to me once when I upgraded to a newer knoppmyth version. Somehow all my recording settings got shifted up by one channel. So mythtv was looking for Prison Break on NBC not FOX and looking for Modern Marvels on Cartoon Network not History Channel. I had to enter all the shows on the correct channels.

This usually happens when your channel definitions get out of sync for some reason. We've seen similar behavior when people "scan" for SDTV channels and end up roaching their lineups. My recommendation is to purge the channel info by deleting the video source, recreating it and downloading a fresh copy. Note that you will also need to recreate your input connections as well. At that point you may want to revisit all the recording schedules and do a little dance. First set them to record on any channel and save, then set them to record on the channel you want.

These threads have some more details:

Don't think the channel thing is the problem -- almost all my recordings (18 or 19 out of 20ish) are Any Channel records, so I can't see how hosing the channel settings would cause this behavior. It seems that it's purely a logical problem -- like I said, if I go through the normal steps to create a recording schedule (click show title, change to "any time on any channel", set options, save), the new schedule appears alongside the old (non-functional) one, and then if I go to Upcoming Recordings, the program appears on the list.

Example: I have "Monk" on my recording schedule, and there's some episodes next Friday. Under "Upcoming Recordings", there is no listing of any kind (previous, conflict, etc) for Monk. If I search for Monk in the program listing, click it, set to "any time any channel", and save, now under Upcoming Recordings I see several entries for Monk. It's picking the right channel, too -- so I don't think the channel numbering has anything to do with it. Also, I have not upgraded in at least two months -- in fact, for the last month, it's been running headless and I've been interacting with it only by way of an XBMCMythTV frontend (xbox) plus the occasional ssh in to move some recordings to offline storage on another PC. I have not touched any settings, have had no crashes, nothing untoward or out of the ordinary, and yet still it has flaked out. For now, I think I'm just going to go through by hand and re-set all my recording schedules, but it would be nice to know what the hell happened.

Uh, it just happened again. Seemingly at random, exact same symptoms. The last two recording schedules I added are getting picked up; the rest do nothing. I'd rather not have to miss a bunch of shows to notice it in the first place, then re-do all my schedules every month or two if I can help it. Can anybody tell me specifically what to look for in the db or the logs, and how to do so? Or at least point me to some kind of reference with similar information? I consider myself at least conversant in Linux system administration and "tech troubleshooting" generally, but I'm not even sure where to start on this one. Has nobody else had this problem?

To reiterate, I do "any time any channel" for most schedules, plus I have not *touched* the channel setup between when it was working, and now when it is not. In fact, it's been running headless with an XBOX as playback frontend, and mythweb used to make/update schedules and resolve conflicts. I very occasionally VNC over to it if I need to e.g. delete a recording but allow re-record, which I don't think xbmcmythtv accomodates. Anyway, it is *not* a channel problem. Maybe somebody can shed some light on the process of creating the "upcoming recordings" list? When you search for the show in mythweb it just looks for matching titles, but is there a different process in the myth backend logic?

OK, for the love of all things holy, this just happened *AGAIN*. What SQL tables do the recording schedules get stored to? I can't figure it out.

I have a schedule for "Mystery!", the PBS series. There is an episode tonight, but it doesn't show up under Upcoming Recordings. I made a new one (through mythweb) by selecting the old one, clicking "Find showings of...", then opening tonight's episode and changing it to "any time on any channel". Now, I have two recording schedules called "Mystery", and tonight's show is on the Upcoming Recordings list. REALLY WIERD PART: if I go to the X11 frontend on the Myth box, under Manage Recordings->Set Priorities, when I highlight the old Mystery entry, it says "(Recording 0 of 0)" under the show title! I'm not sure how to take a screenshot, or I'd post it here.

This is driving me insane, and making me miss a bunch of TV to boot. Can't anybody help?

UPDATE: I (kind of) fixed it! Some kind soul on #mythtv-users told me to try

Code:
mythbackend --resched
mythbackend --printsched

and it worked! I'm not to the heart of the problem, but he referred (rather ominously) to a "scheduler query problem" on the original version of myth 0.19 due to incompatibilities with MySQL 5 (?), which is resolved as of myth version "0.19-fixes". Now, if I can just bring myself to upgrade knoppmyth...

Running R5C7. I think I am experiencing the identical problem. Recordings are still listed in under "recording schedules" in mythweb, but do not record. Only fix I have found is to delete/create a new recording profile.

I have tried the following.
- checked for DB errors; none found
- looked for obvious name or description changes that may be throwing the scheduler off; nothing obvious
- Changed from specific channel record to any channel and vice versa; just a matter of time (not quantified yet) and recordings are missed
- Checked the log, no entry around when a recoding is missed...a lot to look through, did not see anything obviously indicating an error anywhere else.

Will keep an eye on it...hopefully a pattern will emerge
