Hello,

I'm pretty new to linux and completely new to MythTV so I have been learning quite a bit. I have been able to get everything working on my install of MythTV except the DVD player.

Xine won't play dvds either giving an error: "There is no input plugin to handle 'dvd:/' Maybe MRL syntax is wrong or file/stream source doesn't exist."

The computer is able to read the combo drive fine as it is what I used to install KnoppMyth.

Thanks for any help you can give me to get this working.

This is a goldie and an oldie. Look for 'examples' under libdvdread3.
Then run the .sh you find.

I ran the "install-css.sh" and xine is still giving me the same error.

One of the best ways to troubleshoot stuff like this is to search for the error message you're getting, making sure you pick "search all terms."

Doing so on "input plugin" turned up this thread, which makes me think you should check your DVD Playback setting and see what is there.

Upon checking my DVD settings:

Location of DVD Device: /mnt/cdrom

This seems to be the problem, but I'm not sure what this should be replaced with. I have a combo drive and a cd drive both connected along with one hdd.

Ah, that could be your problem: two optical drives on one cable.Myth doesn't like more than one optical device.

Ok,

So I reinstalled KnoppMyth with just one optical drive (the combo drive). It now will play unprotected DVDs. When it tries to play commercial protected DVDs it starts playing then xine player just quits. Any ideas?

Now, you need to do the 'examples' thing (connected to the internet)... we don't talk about it much here coz it might get cesman into trouble. Ok? But it should work there after.

Thank you all very much for your help. I finally got it working. MythTV is really a great program, especially when it is fully functional.
