I have been toying with the idea of building a mythbox for quite a while. What I'd like to do, is build a box that can record shows from my Dish Sat reciever while watching another show and then be able to burn them to a DVD for playback on a regular home DVD player. Can Knoppmyth burn saved shows to a DVD? Do these disc play back properely on home DVD players?

If anyone has built a box like this, can then share their hardware choices?

Thanks,
Eric

well lets see...

Each concurrent 'live' activity needs a capture device, so recording one show while watching another 'live' show requires two tuners. recording a live show while wathcing a previously recorded show only requires one tuner as only one 'live' activity is happening at a time.

I think the issue you will run into is that each tuner card needs a source, so if you plan on recording two SAT channels at the came time (or record one while watching as second Live show) you will need two SAT receivers.

Each SAt box will need an IRBlaster to allow the mythbox to set the channel correctly on SAT box tuner. search for IRBLASTER

Burning shows to DVD is done with a plugin called MythBurn...search for details.

Thanks!

It might be better to just have a Mythbox downstairs where we watch less TV and let it use that Sat reciever and then build some front end boxes for the upstairs TV's so that we can pull the recorded shows off the Mythbox.

You already have two satalite tuners?

If so then you can have them both on a backend system. Then you can have a frontend at each TV. This will allow you to watch live TV and record at the same time on both TV's. Though you can't do all three at once (i.e. watch one live TV and record or watch both live TV and don't record). You can also record to shows at the same time (when not watching live TV). And you can access all your recordings at either TV.

Yes I do have to recievers.

What can people recommend for a front end system? Can you run this over wireless? or do you need a wired network?

Thanks,
Eric
