I have assembled a KnoppMyth box and have had pretty good success with the the internet, weather, and newsfeed portions. As far as television goes. I try to watch tv, and get a black screen. When I change channels, I get the program guide box and info at the top of the screen, but no telly.
My capture card is an AverMeda PVR 150 Plus MPEG-2 card. I just seem to be missing how to get the thing to show telly...

Help?

I tried the suggestions at that page, and nothing. When trying to watch telly, I get the program guide on the screen, it changes if I change channels, but black in the background. After following the page and some other links in the forums, I have come to the conclusion that my specific card simply doesn't work with either Video 4 Linx or IVTV. Oh well, I will save up some more and purchase one of the cards that is listed in the Reference Machine specs...

No. The card was given to me by someone who bought a new system based on MCE, and apparently it is another piece of Windows-only ware.

Ok, I managed to replace the AverTV 150 card with a Hauppauge WinTV 150 card. I reinstalled Knoppmyth just to make sure that everything was cleared out. The software detects the card, but when I try to watch telly, I get snow this time instead of a black screen, with the program guide/window when I flip channels. I have tried changing the source in the General screen from us-cable to hrc, then irc, along with fetching the list of stations from my video source each time I make the change, with no result other than snow. Everything else, Weather, Internet streams, and news feeds works fine.

I am at a loss as to what I am doing wrong..

Thanks to Baishen78 - this worked for me:

put the "options ivtv tuner=50" line in the file

/etc/modprobe.conf

I would put down which thread I found this in, but I have too many windows open to remeber which one.
