As it is now, X only starts up at 1920x1200 screen resoultion IF the monitor is on at the time X starts. If the monitor is off, X starts up at 1024x768.

Is there a way to force X to start at 1920x1200 no matter if the monitor is on or off?

I thought that if edited the Monitor section of the XF86Config-4 file, to say:
Code:
Option      "UseEDID" "false"

that it would prevent X from looking for a monitor to get allowable resolutions from. But, I tried it and X started up at 1024x768 EVERY time.

stumped,
Eric

Not sure if this will do it, but there are two things I would try:

1. Make sure that 1920x1200 is the first choce on your "modes" line.

2. If that doesn't do it, try making "1920x1200" the only option on your modes line.

Also, check what XFree thinks is your primary output. If when the monitor is off, the tv out is considered the primary output, it will limit the range of acceptable modelines. you may be able to force it to think that the monitor is the primary output.

Marc,
No Joy...

I tried leaving "1920x1200" as the only choice in the 24 bit monitor section of the XF86Config-4 file and gdm still resized down 1024x768 when the monitor was off at gdm restart.
