Sorry, first time poster. I searched the forum, but couldn't find exactly what I'm looking for.

Here's a brief rundown. I built a media center, installed Microsoft MCE2005. I liked it a lot, but it's hardware compatibility is awful. A friend of mine suggested switching to MythTV. When I saw screenshots, it seemed to be able to do exactly everything I was doing currently (Movies, DVD Backups, MP3s, Pictures). He said he believed that even my old Hauppauge WinTV PCI (BT878) would work with it.

My Linux experience is very light. The last time I used any form of Linux was many years ago when Slackware 3.6 came out, so I've forgotten pretty much everything about it. I like how easy the install of KnoppMyth is, and it even works with my MCE Remote.

My problem is this: When the PC boots up, it detects the WinTV card, and says something about "BTTV". When I try to use it in the Myth config, it only gives me options for "Video0", "Video1", etc.

How do I configure this old thing to work? It's a P4 2.8ghz with 1GB of ram, so I really don't care if it uses a lot of cpu. I have a kid, so I'm broke, and buying a new PVR card is out of the question.

Please don't flame -- I *AM* trying to learn here.

I'm not sure what card you are talking about. I have an old hauppauge "WinTV pvr PCI" card. Is that the one you are asking about? If so then it will not work with knoppmyth. There was a linux driver being written for that card but work on it ended like two yours ago. And even it the driver was complete MythTV isn't setup to use it.

No, it's not a PVR card. It's one of the actual first Hauppauge WinTV PCI cards that used to use the WinTV2000 viewer app. BT878 Chipset, which should be supported by Video4Linux.

The card I am talking about is one of hauppauge's first WinTV cards. It used the WinTV2000 application. It has a sound loopback cable and uses your soundcard to record the audio. I bought it years before hauppauge released the PVR-x50 series and is not compatable.

Did you try the BTTV How-to from the wiki?
