I like to listen to radio and there are some talk shows I want to hear but just dont have a time block when it's on. How can i configure myth to record these?

I have a win-tv go card that can tune fm radio. It would seem that a personal audio recorder (PAR) would complement a PVR in general and there would be significant utility for it.

Has this already been done and is it part of myth (but i am too stoopid to see it)?

A PAR is a perfect complement to web surfing. Ergo, can myth be configured to include a browser?

So far as I know there is not way to schedule it from within MythTV, and if there is a TV program scheduled in conflict you will probably run into issues with both trying to access the capture card at the same time.

However as a method around it, you could use a couple of programs in concert to make up a .mp3 file of your radio program, schedule them in cron, and have the output stored in a folder in your /myth/audio folder where you could then listen to the programing via the audio plugin to MythTV.

Getting everything working is a bit long for this forum, and I don't know off hand if everything you need is installed in KnoppMyth. (I have not done this myself.)

One of the reasons you would have problems scheduling this via Myth is that there is no radio schedule available in Myth.

Basicly what you have to do is kick off a program that will tune to the right station and leave it there. Radio works for me to do that part, I believe there are a couple of other programs available as well.

Now you need to use a program like Sox to capture the audio stream from the win-tv-go card, and feed it to something like Lame to generate the .mp3 file.

Next you would probably want to update the id tags in the .mp3 file with the appropriate information, (station in place of publisher, Show name in place of title, etc.)

Things that are left over include the fact that you will have to have the audio plugin look for new files each time, and you will probably want to set up some sort of schedul to delete old radio shows, or move them to CD or other media on a regular basis.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, but i am already intimidated. I know not linux well.

Just getting myth to work defeated me.
(that's why i went to knoppmyth)

Customizing myth is waaay beyond me and likely to land me in dependency hell. Even the author notes that changing stuff in knoppmyth (recompiling the kernel, etc) is likely to break it.

Maybe I should look to win 2kpro and sageTV.

Hi bwana,

Did you ever get your recording issue resolved? I do it just that every weekend as I enjoy listening to the Prarrie Home Companion :)

Recording radio would be great! What did you have to do to get it working?

Thanks (I call trademark on 'radivo').

I wanted to do this as well. I did some searches and I discovered that the support for radio channels on tuner cards is being added to myth 0.20.

Until then, you will have to capture radio outside of myth as mentioned above.

Cheers,

Allen
