Built and Upgraded to R5C7 about 5 weeks back seemed to work fine.
About 2 weeks back MySQL filled /Var. Since I was unavailable and couldn't get to the console, just cleared thing so it would load and stopped doing recording, etc.
Back on the console Today, Repaired the MySQL tables, got Log Rotation fixed and verified it was working. Have restarted a couple of times so it seemed everything was good.

Running a High Quality recording and suddenly the box kicked out to "Penguin on the Couch" screen.
It does this peridoically, just got a new cooler to run on the Bridge, so didn't think much of it. When to relaod Myth Frontened, and it went sort of the the Nvidia screen mostly grey with horizontal darker bars. It sat there for 15 minutes while I let my backend finish it's record.

Waited a few then ordered a Reboot at the Alternate console.

It came back to a Text Screen and I got two messages.

Starting mythTV server: error while loading shared library: libXv.so.1. Cannot open. No such file or directory.

..and a few lines later:

Starting GNOME Display Manager: gdm/usr/bin/gdm: error loading shared library: libX11.so.6. Cannot open. No such file or directory.

Any thoughts here?

I did a couple of searches and only found reference to new install. Since this has been working I don't see where the answer applies as I had a working installation.

I would start out with making sure you have room on your / filesystem.

I've seen things like this happen when log files get out of hand...

I can't remember all of the details--search the forums for howto's on deleting the log files.

Ok, I checked into the various logs.
I had initially followed the discussion here:
Quote:
http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=65841#65841

to remedy the large mysql log problem. The / was essentially 100% full at that point.

One thing I have noticed now in looking around.
The logs I would expect to see updating, like syslog have not updated since I did a reboot last night. I shutdown last evening and restarted today and have rebooted once and had a full shutdown to protect from a pending powerfailure. I would expect to see Logfile updates in many of these.
about 20:45 on Sept 10th is when it crashed.
Code:

I edited out some of them. But the key logs I would look at messages, syslog and XFree86 have not updated since yesterday evening.

Code:
df -h
Filesystem            Size  Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/hda1             4.6G  2.5G  2.0G  56% /
/dev/vg/myth          233G  134G  100G  58% /myth

You may also want to check/repair your database. See the sticky posting by Cecil/cesman.

Update 09/14/06:

I was able to get into a terminal and login as SU.
Ran Mythbackup and backed up per the instructions from TJC's Hint's for upgrading to R5C7. After this was done and I verifed everything, I inserted the R5C7 cd and ran an auto upgrade and again followd TJC's instructions as if I was rebuilding from an earlier version.

It all came back and works! The team Rocks!
Thanks!

Now on to other issues.

Previous post:Checked the databases, didn't see anything wrong with them. Thanks though.

I also have Webmin running, just noticed when I tried to check log files via that method and I open the System Logs tab it says: "The syslog configuration file /etc/syslog.conf was not found on your system. "

I looked for that and didn't find it on the system. Not sure if that is realtive.

I am pretty much clueless on this and unfortunately, I hand't had much time to check everything out before I had to leave about 6 weeks ago.
Of course when return the DW wanted it fixed now so she could get to her shows. I am hoping I didn't mess up.

After the reparis to the MySQL log and clean-up it succesfully got listings, sheduled programs and recorded same, then it hosed during the last recording. When I restarted to get out of that it didn't like it one bit.
