Ive run into this problem a few times and it seems like there's an easy? solution. Since mythtv knows that is is recording a game and there are many sites out there that update the score as a game goes on (and notify you if the game has gone into OT or is currently delayed), mythtv should be able to use this data to decide when to start/stop recording. It's just a suggestion, and probably not so easy to implement (especially when adjusting the end time would cause a conflict), but i was wondering if anyone was already working on such a thing?

I think there's already some support for this in the 0.19 fixes branch. Look under the TV settings section. I forget exactly where...

I just installed Myth Recording Extender (the unofficial plugin that you are referring to) last night, unfortunately I didn't finish in time to test it on the football games, so I have no idea if it actually works yet. I have a couple baseball games scheduled tonight so we'll see how it goes. I'll lay out the steps I took to get it running later tonight in case your interested - there was a little bit of work involved.

The only setting I found (and I forgot exactly where also) was to extend the recording by a set amount of time, based on it's genre or something. So I was adding an hour to every sports event, but this was a pain, especially if the game ended really early, or went even longer.

great, thanks for all the replies. i haven't had much time to play with the box recently, but once I'm free again, it'd definitely be great to have some instructions. I'll give it a shot too, and someone (i'll do it if i get it all set) should add it to the knoppmythwiki so other people know it exists

I wish I would have seen this last night! I missed the last 10 minutes of watching my Minnesota Vikings beat the Redskins. I'll be installing this gem before Sunday!

OK, I have outlined my steps on the wiki. As I was writing this, the Mets game was in a rain delay, and the recording was extended over 3 hours so far, so it seems to be working, let's just see if it stops recording properly after the game is actually over. Let me know if you have any questions with the wiki and any of the steps.

I wasn't sure exactly where to put the command to have this start at boot, so if anyone has any ideas let me know or edit the wiki. You only have to run 'mre.php' to start it, so maybe this could be incorporated into the backend init script?
