Does such a beast exist? I'd like to be able to get HD without having to use an IR blaster an' this is the only way I can think of doin' it offhand.

I am almost positive that the only tuner cards that will support CableCard, will only be supported under Windows, and even then only specifically-certified Windows Vista systems (i.e. forget about building your own). Yes, here's the link I was thinking of:

Well, that sucks. I guess I'll end up pickin' up a S3 tivo, then.

I guess I don't see the immediate connection to an IR blaster and cable-card capable tuner. I think there are cable "boxes" which use firewire for their connection to MythTv. I don't know if they are controlled with firewire, serial, or IR signals. Is that the issue?

Good point, I should have mentioned cable + Firewire as a possibility for recording HD and channel changing (although it might limit you to recording only unencrypted channels).

A cable card tuner wouldn't require a seperate box with an IR Blaster. And firewire cables boxes are pretty much nonexistant AFAIK.

Actually, channel-changing via Firewire has been supported for a while now, and by law a cable company MUST provide you with a digital cable box with Firewire output if you ask for one.

(note that Firewire requirement has been true for two years now... that was to provide for recording of unencrypted channels via the old Digital VHS decks).

Huh, I didn't know that. I'll have to check it out. Thanks! I wonder how well it's supported in Myth.
