I'm using the latest release of Knoppmyth. I'm have a decent amount
of Linux experience, but this is my first try at Mythtv. And my
Linux experience I mean with using Linux with Samba, Apache, etc,
etc. I've never had to deal much with Linux + weird device driver
issues.

I'm having trouble getting my capture card to work. According to
dmesg, I have WinTV PVR 250 card. Is that the same as a Hauppauge
250 card? Farther down in the dmesg text it mentions "Hauppauge
model 32032". Will this card work with Linux? If all of that is fine, any idea why I can't it to work? Mythtv tells me on one of the setup screens that it can't probe /dev/video0. I checked, that doesn't exist. Any idea what my
next step should be? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Nathan

Yes absolutely. It's probably one of the most obvious choices. However you're not giving us much to go on as far as helping you. What is or isn't it doing? What version of KnoppMyth are you using? What are the symptoms? What have you tried? Remember, the answers we give you are only as good as the information we get to base them on.

In the meantime, see the troubleshooting pages on the wiki for some things to look at - http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php? ... leShooting

OBTW - If you have one of the M2523_5N_E or M2523_3DB_E tuner chips see the bottom of this posting: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=11293

Thanks for the reply.

When I tell Myth that I want to watch Live TV, the screen flickers for a second and then goes back to the main menu. If it is run from a terminal, I get the error message saying that Live TV was not successfully started.

My first post was also incorrect about /dev/video0. That does exist. But I am not sure if that is even what I should be using. I only have one tuner card, a 250. I have a standard coax (is that spelled right?) cable plugged into the wall port and straight into the tuner on the computer. It works fine when plugged straight into the TV.

Also, I dug this up from dmesg:

ivtv: ==================== START INIT IVTV ====================
ivtv: version 0.4.3 (tagged release) loading
ivtv: Linux version: 2.6.15-chw-2 SMP preempt 586 gcc-3.3
ivtv: In case of problems please include the debug info between
ivtv: the START INIT IVTV and END INIT IVTV lines, along with
ivtv: any module options, when mailing the ivtv-users mailinglist.
ivtv0: Autodetected WinTV PVR 250 card (cx23416 based)
ivtv0: Unreasonably low latency timer, setting to 64 (was 32)
tuner 1-0061: chip found @ 0xc2 (ivtv i2c driver #0)
ivtv0: i2c attach to card #0 ok [client=(tuner unset), addr=61]
ivtv0: i2c attach to card #0 ok [client=MSP4448G-A2, addr=40]
saa7115 1-0021: saa7115 found @ 0x42 (ivtv i2c driver #0)
ivtv0: i2c attach to card #0 ok [client=saa7115, addr=21]
ivtv0: i2c attach to card #0 ok [client=tveeprom, addr=50]
ivtv0: unable to open firmware v4l-cx2341x-enc.fw
ivtv0: did you put the firmware in the hotplug firmware directory?
ivtv0 warning: failed loading encoder firmware
ivtv0 warning: Error loading firmware -3!
ivtv0: Error -3 initializing firmware.
ivtv0: Error -12 on initialization
ivtv: probe of 0000:03:04.0 failed with error -12
ivtv: ==================== END INIT IVTV ====================

I'm not sure what the two errors at the bottom mean, it might not mean anything. Or it might. I thought I would post them just in case.

I am using the current version of Knoppmyth, I downloaded it last night.

What other info do you need? I feel like I am so close to having this actually work!

Nathan

Like I said above, I don't know if this has anything to do with it or not, but I did some searching around for the firmware files.

On my system they are located in /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware/. According to dmesg it is trying to open v4l-cx2341x-enc-fw. That file exists in the directory and has r--r--r permissions.

Like I said I don't know if that matters or not, but I thought I would pass it along. Any help would be appreciated.

This bit of information would be useful since it looks like an old one... Also please use the sed command from the CheckingLogFiles wiki page to extract the information, since the grep is dropping the tveeprom information which would tell us your chipset.

BTW - Have you looked at the troubleshooting pages? Especially this one - http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php? ... WatchingTV
It contains an extensive list of diagnostics and solutions.

If you're running R5C7 it would probably pay to just go ahead and do the CompileIvtv upgrade procedure from the wiki, which should only take 5-10 minutes.

Thank you for the link, the bit about not having the right input setup made me think of something. As of right now, I can watch "live" TV or I can record something and save it to the /myth/tv folder. Which is great, I've never managed to make it past compiling the requirments for Myth before. This is a real milestone for me.

However I have around 65-70 channels. They show up correctly in the program guide. However anything above 13 gives me static. Any thoughts on that one? I tried having it load the channel info from the guide, that made no difference. And when I tell it to search for channels it searches but it stops at 13. What could be causing that?

That one is right from the troubleshooting guide. Wrong frequency set. Did you chose US broadcast when you're connecting to a cable system?

OBTW - Do not scan for channels if you can use zap2it, as this will hose your setup. You now need to drop your video source and recreate it and the input connection to clean up the damage that will cause.
