Have been smoothly running R5C7 on my system. Recently made another R5C7 box for my wife. Both boxes run PVR350 cards. Nuvexported (option 11) all her shows from my box and transfered them to a subdirectory on her /myth partition. I know I have seen the command somewhere to load the exported files into her tv listings. For the life of me though I can't find the thread again where I saw it. The boxes do have different host names.

If someone would be so kind as point me to the command and will I have an issue bacause of the different host names? I've seen some references to that.

Thanks

Can I ask why you wouldn't just want one to be a master backend and the other be a slave backend? I assume they are networked together, since you mention different hostnames.

This way you could both access your shows on either system and you wouldn't have to maintain two sets of recording schedules. And if you are using it for other things such as photos, music, non-tv videos, etc they would also be shared between the two systems.

I agree with what abrendel said. You are wasting a lot of the unique MythTV features if you don't setup your two boxes in a master/slave network.

Keep in mind the MythTV developers are planing on adding features to assist multiple users manage recordings in a single database/backend (ie. so you don't have to say "Sorry I deleated that Law & Order episode. I didn't realise you hadn't watched it yet.").

This is covered in the MythTV docs. I highly suggest reading them...

Ok...Have set up Master-Slave but.....

I can see the master program listings from the slave machine. However, nothing plays if you select it. No errors, no messages in syslog, messages, or backend log. Display just returns to the listings of recorded programs on the master server.

Did you follow these instructions?

http://knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page ... ckendHowTo

My guess would be somewhere in the nfs mounting sections. (editing the vfstab on the slave, /etc/exports on the master, restarting nfs, making sure the filesystem is actually mounted, etc)

Yes did find that ref. Seemed to be more complex then needed and not up to date with current >=R5C7 releases.
Anyway have the slave mostly working now. It's capture card is seen as a remote resource by the master. Recordings can be made from the slave machine user interface. Only glitch remaining seems to be when on the slave machine mythweb page scheduling recordings does not work. You can delete recordings but can't order new ones from the slaves web interface. Under recording schedules the record shows up on the slave machine but not the master. Not sure what is going on here.

All in all the slave seems to be 90+% there.

Thanks all for your help.

You should not use mythweb on the slave system. Schedule all recordings on the master.

Can run Mythweb from master only no problem.

Spoke to soon on remaining issues. Main one is I can watch all recordings made both on master and slave from slave. I get an entry (with no thumbnail) on the master of recording done by the slave but can't view any slave recordings from the master. Seems the slave is still saving recordings to it's local /myth/tv directory. Since slave seems to be able to access recordings on master /myth/tv and it's local /myth/tv folder not sure why master can't do the same thing in reverse.

both have /myth set up as samba shares.

Looks like you have to turn of master overide in mythtv-setup when you are not using a common disk storage pool.

Now can play all programs from both slave and master.

THanks again
