Hey guys,

I thought I'd post my slightly different x crash to see if it fits any other pieces together. On a fresh install with 350 I get TV on the 350 and GUI on the VGA monitor, and x fails on reboot. Here's the error:

(==) Log file: "/var/log/XFree86.0.log", Time blah blah blah
(==) Using config file "/etc/x11/XF86Config-4"
(EE) open /dev/fb0: No such device
(EE) Screen 0 deleted because of no matching conifg section
(EE) Device(s) detected, but none match those in the config file

fatal server error
no screens found

Thanks to you all working on this. I've owned a 350 for over a year and have yet to get it to work with any distro/procedure. I rejoiced the other night with KM finally got me up and watching live TV and could explore all Myth has to offer.

Thanks,
Joseph

burdick, did you have bootsplash enabled? I got that same error message when I tried installing without bootsplash. With bootsplash I get the one about 'ivtvHWProvbe failed to do IVTVFB_IOCTL_GET_STATE'.

I should have said before...no bootsplash. I've done two fresh installs w/o bootsplash and got the same error both times on first reboot.
I don't really know what I'm doing, but I did follow the Myth w/ATrpms procedure for a few months tinkering with ivtv and conf files. So I tried changing fb0 to fb1 in X86conf, but to no avail. I'm excited to resolve this, but I also have audio troubles to work out in the mean time as long as I leave that box running 24/7. Maybe I'll look into suspending/sleeping to avoid a reboot? Some systems can run for years w/o a reboot...

My first post to these forums - apologies if I'm posting in the wrong place.

This is a little different than the other symptoms so far:

After install (R5D1, fourth time) I get the frontend on my monitor and video on the TV. After reboot I get the screen 0 and gdm problem as described.

No ivtv-fb in lsmod.

However, when I modprobe ivtv-fb (via ssh), I get a Segmentation Fault and my monitor hangs.

Thanks.

-Dave

Hi burdick,

If you have never had tv out from your 350 card, I would suggest dropping back to R5C7. Just don't select bootsplash and you should be good to go. There is one little thing to tweak about log rollover but you have time before that bothers.

Later when the 350 issue is resolved, just upgrade :) Wait a little while, you just know Cecil and his team will offer something even bigger and better.. keep the faith :)

Mike

So digging through my logs I realized that ivtv was loading before hotplug, causing it not to find the firmware on the first load.

I also was experiencing the seg fault when trying to manually load ivtv and ivtv_fb. Once I downloaded the original ivtv drivers and recompiled the seg fault was fixed. Still trying to track down where hotplug and ivtv come into play loading.

does anyone know what files on load starts the order of hotplug and ivtv?

It used to be the /etc/modules file. I've fixed ivtv problems in the past by shoving the hotplug stuff in front of ivtv, but since ivtv has actually been taken out of that file it's got to be something else that's aliased to it. Maybe one f the video things... possibly "videodev" or maybe "video" (since it is your primary output)?

I found some of the problem i was having:

I moved S20set_ivtv_params to S45set_ivtv_params (after hotplug) in each of the rc#.d directories (starting at 2). It properly finds the firmware, that mine was not before. The only thing I cannot get to load and havent fully looked into it, is the ivtv_fb loading with this new way. however if I login, modprobe ivtv_fb and restart gdm it works fine after that. So only one step left..

Same thing here. Everthing works perfect untill my first reboot. Anyone come up with a solution yet?? I seem to have the same problem as rakudavehall, seg fault if I modprobe ivtv-fb.

I'm glad Bob pointed me to this thread. I was starting to think I was going insane.

I've posted all my config files at this post
http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=68282#68282

I'm going to d/l and try installing R5C7.
