Hi - struggling to get r5d1 installed. It is a clean, first time install on a computer that has had winXP and various debian installs before - when the network was fine. This is a fresh formatted hard disk (no other O/S).

I have to have a static address and have set it up that way during install. I have also now tried netcardconfig. The interfaces file looks fine - exactly the same as my simplymepis (debian-based) file on another computer. I have also checked that the resolv.conf file contains the right dns numbers. I have disabled the network firewall just in case (even though it permits the knoppmyth computer's ip address). If I run ifconfig it seems to have the right eth0 settings - they all come up in the output, but I can't even ping the other PCs on the network.

Now I'm a bit stuck - not a complete newb but this is very frustrating. Good luck to those who report "had it running out of the box in 15 minutes". I've been at it on and off for two days. I now have a picture that judders and looks like an amateur slo-mo (Haup pvr150mce), and sound that is so tinny it is unusable. Sounds like the first tranny I had 50 years ago!!

Can anyone help with the network prob - I'll sort the rest with the help of a couple of posts I've found.

TIA

RJ

OK - partly solved. I have a wireless connection from PC to router and Knoppmyth doesn't "like" this. I tried with an ethernet connection to a notebook and they can ping each other.

Presumably, therefore, I have to figure out how to configure the wireless card to work with Knoppmyth. I presume that could be a problem as I understand that getting w/less cards to work with some distros is a prob. although it works fine with simplymepis but then most things do :D

I'll start searching the forum and googling - if anyone has experience of w/less cards and Knoppmyth perhaps they could chip in??

Thanks

OK - making progress. The problem looks like missing firmware for the wireless card. The card is a Texas Instruments ACX111.

dmesg reports (paraphrasing here since I can't get a connection on that PC):

acx: driver experimental
acx: found
acx: firmware image tiacx111c16 not provided - check hotplug scripts
acx: requesting tiacx111 firmware image - not provided
acx: reset-dev() FAILED
acx: acx-pci probe of (hex address) failed with error -5

I have a link to Craig's acx site but the procedure to get the new drivers and firmware requires compiling and who knows what else. I might give it a try if I can find the time, energy and will.

Sorry that this card is not supported in Knoppmyth. It works ok under debian. simplymepis, and both ubuntu and kubuntu.
