I setup R5D1 and it went well.

I'm using a PVR-150 and it seemed to detect it ok. I was able to fetch all the channels with zap2it, or at least I think I do. It finds all the correct channel numbers during a full scan.

So when I restart the backend, and go to watch TV, I get a really fuzzy version of one channel. I think I saw and heard Oprah on there. But, when I change channels, nothing happens. It's stays on the Oprah channel.

I can browse through the listings...it seems to know what's on, and going to be on next. But I can't watch them.

Where can I start? Seems like my 150 is not setup right.

Matt

Do not do channel scan if you can use a zap2it feed. You'll hose your channels table.

You'll need to go into mythtv-setup, drop all your video sources, and recreate them and the input connections, to undo the mess. If you're channels are fuzzy look at the Troubleshooting FAQs on the wiki which include an extensive set of things to try.

Thank you for the reply.

Because I'm new at capture cards, I'll try to describe what I'm seeing here a bit more clearly. I did as you said. Deleted my video sources and recreated them and the intput connections. I skipped the scan, etc.

There was no change in my channel stuff. I don't think they card is really getting anything from the cable signal. I think the fuzzy picture I get is there only because the cable plugged into it is acting like an antenna. Even when I press up or down and space or enter to change chans, The picture doesn't change. It flickers like it's changing, but it's the same staticy picture as it was before. If I remove the cable, I get a fuzzier version of the same thing. It's definately not getting the cable signal. or it's not doing something right with it.

I didn't do anything special to get my 150 setup. I just let it auto detect.

I also didn't see anything in the FAQ's about this type of thing. Well, it did say to get the card working in another program first. What program should I try?

Look closer here, http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php? ... leShooting
and you should find this page, http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php? ... WatchingTV

It's description includes the notation
Quote:
also for "nothing but snow" and "quits immediately"
and on the page itself
Quote:
This page IS applicable if you are only seeing "snow" or "gray fuzz".

After you triple check the connections and signal as suggested, start with the other frequency sets and head on down the list.

I'm getting closer. Thanks for the links.

The stuff about log files is the most helpful so far.

I'm seeing this in my dmesg output:

Code:
tuner 0-0061: tuner type not set

I'm tracking that one down now.

That's right there in the troubleshooting list EvilTwin pointed you to. The third top level bullet point says "PVR tuner type is unrecognized by the drivers". I know there's a lot of dense information on that page but I'm at a loss for how to make that clearer. You've most likely got one of the TCL M2523_*_E model tuner chips. If you've got something else I'd really like to hear about it so that we can document what to do.

Thank you again for your patience and help.

I have it working now. Great work on this distro. Really a cool system. Now, I just need a remote and a better TV. And another tuner. :)

For anyones info, I have a PVR-150. I didn't think it was an MCE, but reading a bit more, it seems like it is. I found my fix here:
http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php? ... ptureCards

Adding that to the ivtv and modprobe.conf fixed my problem.

I'm recording and watching now!

Excellent. Can you tell us what was confusing there so that we can improve the documentation?
