I picked up a DVDRW for my mythbox, the machine sees it but Mythtv does not, what steps need to be taken to correct this?[/quote]

sweet, CDs are working....but i cant get any DVDs to rip or play, do i need some codecs?

Most commercial DVDs are encrypted. KnoppMyth does not support playing encrypted DVDs out of the box, because it is a US based distro and Cecil doesn't want to get sued under the DMCA. If you think not being able to play content you paid for, on whatever machine you want is an outrage, tell your congress critter.
