I using the latest knoppmtyh version R5D1.

what am I doing wrong?

There's your problem. Although I'm not sure what value you need to set them to.

As described on the troubleshooting page on the wiki: http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=BlackScreenWatchingTV

- Follow the link to the CompileIvtv page and try upgrading to ivtv 0.7.1
- Check the ivtv mailing list to see if there's an appropriate tuner type to use, folow the link to the TVCaptureCards page and force the tuner type via the modprobe.conf file.

OBTW - Searching the forums should have found the link to this thread which contains a simple patch - http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/i ... ung;#31467

I finally got ik working, usinf this patch
http://www.mail-archive.com/ivtv-users@ ... 03739.html
It tunes now every frequency below 500 MHz fine!
but frequencies above that are a bit noisy.
this is NOT a cable problem, is it probably a driver bug?

Say rather that the driver hasn't caught up with that tuner chip yet. The ivtv, v4l and kernel folks are constantly playing catch up, since Hauppauge changes tuner chips more often than some people change their bedsheets. Also, some of the chip vendors (e.g. Samsung) are less than forthcoming with the programming data needed...

The next release of the kernel and drivers will probably have bertter support, but that takes time. :(

Thanks for this thread. I finally got my PVR-500 working due to the info posted here.

I'm experiencing the same low quality picture issues as described here but I also found another thread somewhere (it's location eludes me at the moment) that mentions that an RF amp or some type of signal booster may improve the quality. I'll give it a try in a few days when i can get my mitts on one and let you know how it goes.

Thanks again
