Alright, im kind of linux n00b, and am trying to assemble a knoppymyth box with parts that i have on hand, i have a Hauppauge WinTV PVR-350, ATI Radeon 256MB PCI Video Card, Athlon XP 2.4ghz processer, ATI RF Remote Wonder, USB UIRT usb transciever, and a 200gb Maxtor IDE harddrive, as well as an included sound card, dont know the brand but i am pretty sure that it should work with knoppmyth as it worked with ubuntu 6.06 and it used the ALSA driver.

I plan on getting the Hauppauge to grab video from my Comcast Digital cable Set top box, a DCT 700, and was also wondering if i could do it with my USBUIRT or if i would have to make a serial IR transmitter to accomplish this?

Thanks in advance

See the Tier 1 & Tier 2 Hardware recommendationsin the forums, also see these wiki pages:

I haven't updated the later in a while, but that mostly means it doesn't cover the latest generation sof hardware folks are using. The basics are still the same. Some of the problem areas have gotten easier or more reliable (SATA, ATI video cards, XvMC) but they're still not as easy as other options.
