I've just installed my first tuner card, and am having problems scanning for channels.

I keep getting the message "Failed to open card". I've done some searching, and am pretty sure the problem is the backend is running. I've using one computer as the front/backend.

How can i stop the backend, so when i press ALt + S to get into the setup screen and Channel Editor i dont get the message about the backend running?

Open a terminal window and type:

sudo /etc/init.d/mythtv-backend stop
