I'm finalising my plans for a frontend/backend set-top box. I've more-or-less decided on an Epia ME6000 in a Travla C137 box but the thorny issue of an IR receiver remains.

The question is: do I build my own and do a case mod, buy one and do a case mod or buy a module that sits next to the case and plugs into the back panel.

I've found http://www.zapway.de/ which do an Epia version but requires a hole drilling in the case. I've also found some receiver modules but these are irda which /I think/ are not suitable for this type of application.

For the transmitter I think I'll get a one-for-all type which seem well supported under lirc.

Any opinions? I'd be interested to hear what others have done.
