Hi all,

I know this is probably a lame question, but I did try to search for the answer before I posted.

I am venturing out into the world of burning some shows to dvd, using mythtv to make my iso files, and burning them to dvd on my windows box.

I found the iso file it created in the /myth/mythburn/temp directory called mythburndvd.iso.

The filesize is about what I expect it to be for a single 18 minute show and I'm currently ftping it using psftp.exe. I used this single show to test that it will work as I expected before I actually try to burn anything big. (I'm paranoid and don't want to spend 6 hours preparing files to find I screwed up somewhere.)

My question is whether now that I have an iso file sitting on the mythtv system, if I can have mythtv play the iso file just so I can see.

I'm happy to finish downloading the iso, burn it to dvd, and spend the blank to do this, but if something happens to not work right, I'd like to be able to know for sure that the failure happened after the iso was created.

If the iso doesn't work, I'd also like to know before I spend the time trying to burn dvds from it.

I use MythVideo / Xine to play .iso's. Assuming you have xine installed, simply put the iso in the directory where Myth expects to find videos, and set the player setting for .iso files to:

xine -pfhq --no-splash dvd://%s

I keep most of my DVD collection as iso images and use this same method to watch all of them.

Thank you. I will do that.

Any idea where mythtv expects to find iso files?

I am guessing /myth/video except that there are two subdirectories in it called cdrom and motion.

In a default install, I believe /myth/video is the correct path. I have changed my paths to reflect my non-standard storage, so I can't simply check my settings. The path to videos is definitely one of the configuration options in the setup menu's available through the front end.

That clued me in. I hadn't noticed the settings/video before, so hadn't realized the paths are generally data driven and not hard coded.

After playing with it a while, I suddenly realized that the video folder wasn't showing as empty any longer. Hitting ok on it gave me a weird screen with a black bubbly graphic on the left and showing 0 minutes but I did finally clue in that it was the info screen for the iso. I was expecting to see the dvd pop up first and thought that was just an error screen of some kind.

But hitting next actually loaded and ran the iso as if it were a dvd. Worked great. Now I can just burn the dvd and verify that works.
