I'll try to explain this. I just installed R5D1, a new install.
Most everything seems fine except:
When selecting "Watch TV" if I tell knoppmyth to go to channel 3 (via keyboard, remote doesn't work yet) it goes to channel 3 and I am able to view what ever channel the cable box is on. If I tell knoppmyth to go to any other channel, there is nothing but fuzz. So, as long as knoppmyth is told to be on channel 3, I can change the channel on the cable box manually and watch tv via pc as long as it's on channel 3.

The remote doesn't work yet (can't find the neat howto for hauppague with remote and blaster that takes 4 hours to configure, but need to). If I pretend to be the IR Blaster using my cable box remote and change channels on the cable box and in knoppmyth at the same time, I still get nothing but fuzz. Only channel 3 on knoppmyth works.

I have gone to the "GettingBackIntoMythTVSetup" "BlackScreenWatchingTV", etc. And have gone thru the steps. I think that is a good place to access HOW to do it, but I must be missing something on how it should actually be confirgured and not just being able to configure it. Know what I mean?

Any ideas?

Just to make sure, I dropped all channel inputs and settings,... again and re-did. No luck.

Card type is recognized as type=50.

I am not scanning for channels and am using zap2it.

tried updating the ivtv stuff as suggested in other posts, but the box complains that the file obtained thru wget is not "in gzip" format.
That happens for 7.x and 8.x varietties. Was using the directions and had no luck.

I tested the cd, and it checks out.

You are missing the preset channel and the external tuner script settings in your configuration. Lacking those, when you change the channel you're tuning the capture card off the frequency that the cable box is rebroadcasting on, which will naturally result in "snow" or "grey fuzz" or "nothing but noise" or ...

Search for "irblaster" for more info on how to set this up and test with a dummy external tuner script in the meantime.

Thanks for the info.

I'll see what I can do about this.

Thanks!

i had the same problem. go to mythtv-setup and make the external script reference:

/etc/irblaster/channel_change.sh

reboot. that should do it
