My setup is as follows:

- KnoppMyth R5D1
- Hauppauge PVR 250
- Nvidia 5200 s-video out card

Here's what works:

- live TV works fine
- manual recordings work great

What doesn't work:

- scheduled recordings. i see the following message in the backend log:

select timeout - ivtv driver has stopped responding

not sure why this wouldn't work when live tv and manual recordings work.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have seen turning off SMP fix the ivtv timeout before, you might want
to give it try..

It is odd how the ivtv timeout only shows up with scheduled recordings though..

mac,

Thanks for the reply. My board is an Asus k8v (64-bit single processor), but I have seen the following message in dmesg when I get the ivtv timeouts:

BUG: using smp_processor_id() in preemptible [00000001] code: irblasterd/4629 caller is lirc_ioctl+0

Do you think I should recompile my kernel?

You don't need more that one processor or core for SMP code to cause problems.

You might try also turning off APIC and APM in your lilo config and reboot before you recompile
to see if clears up problem.

mac,

Could you please guide me in terms of recompiling the kernel for my R5D1 installation? I've seen some notes on this but they seem inconsistent with what I have on my system.

Also, I tried the suggestions regarding the lilo modifications but they didn't do anything.

Try to follow the guide below that I made for R5B7 the best you can

http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... highlight=

Adapting it to R5D1 won't be too hard for you to figure out.

Post back when you get stuck and I can work you thru the snags.

My timezone is 12 hours ahead of the US east coast, so the turnaround time might be a little slow.

mac,

thanks in advance. in reference to:

"In /usr/src/ you should find:

* Kernel source
* Lircd source
* ivtv-0.4.3 source "

... I don't see the ivtv and lircd source for some reason. Should I go ahead and get the source? I'm assuming I should just get the versions I already have working rather than try the latest versions out there?

The instructions for kernel compile are such that you will be able to boot the orginal kernel.
What you should do go ahead and compile the new kernel (with the existing source on your system) and skip the part where you change:

default=Linux to default=Linux-nosmp

that way you continue to use the old kernel until you get the ivtv and lircd ironed out.

what do you have under /usr/src?

for those in the know, where is the ivtv and lircd source hiding in R5D1?

just ignore the [code] as it appears something is broke with phpBB causing
it not to parse the code blocks in that post.
