Try looking under the transcoding profile group...
Is this suppose to be in Recording Profiles? :? The only options I have in there is the PVR-150 profile and create a new profile group.
The options I have at the bottom of TV Settings are Playback Groups, Recording Profiles, and Recording Priorties. :?:

The full path from the top level menu is:
Utilities/Setup -> Setup -> TV Settings -> Recording Profiles -> Transcoders -> Autodetect from MPEG2 -> 1st page

Under:
Utilities/Setup -> Setup -> TV Settings -> Recording Profiles
You should have MPEG-2 Encoders (...) and Transcoders If you don't have both, then something went wrong with your install.

This is my Recording Profiles screen:
*Image outdated and removed*
So, something is screwed up I guess... I do remeber it being there before on another installation thow...

I have been using this lossless transcoder with my 250 recordinds and it works great when it is played back on my mythtv. When I try to burn the recordings to DVD using Mythburn some, but not all, of the recording has the audio cut off before the video is done.

The audio cutting out may be a project x issue. I saw talk once that the mpeg2 lossless transcode did the re-multiplexing into dvd compatible format itself. If this is true, it would mean that the entire project-x step could be skipped. If anyone gets around to trying that, please post back with your experience.

Greg: yeah its a ProjectX problem (and updating to 0.90.4 didn't fix it) when its being remultiplexed. Mythburn actually offers other re-multiplexing solutions in mythburn/scripts/remplex.sh. Uncommenting line 162 (replex $src dst) and commenting out 172 (remux_projectx..) makes it use an alternate one. I also had to chmod +x mythburn/scripts/replex-0.1.4/replex, but that could just be my installation. This seems to have worked, the one movie I tried still has sound in the last chapter instead of consistently dropping out during the first, although I haven't watched it all the way through. Unfortunately I couldn't get it to burn to a DVD because tcrequant isn't called by the replex function in the script and my DVD ended up a few megs too big. I wonder if it depends on projectx or if I could just copy the tcrequant call?

Relating to what you said about dvd compatible format: I also heard something similar about the capture format for MPEG2 streams: apart from the usual PS and TS there's also some available called DVD and DVD2. Anyone know if these would be better for future recordings?

I haven't seen those options. I use DVB, so may not have the choice. That may be a PVR card thing.

Hi,

my mythtranscode doesn't work :( I have another detailled thread about this, maybe somebody could help me building a debug build to get a usable backtrace?

Please, have a look: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=9489&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

mac, the guy who helped me so far, is "on tour" at the moment and not able to help me... I only need to know the next step ;)

Thank you!!

Well I fixed my problem with the recording profiles by doing a full R5C7 install.
Now when I goto transcode a movie it just says "Stop transcoding" but it's not doing anything, I tried restarting the box but it's still like that.
I think what happened is I tried to start the transcode on a remote frontend and it might be thinking that the job is running on the RFE and it's not because it's just a frontend and not a backend. :?
How do I reset it so it doesnt think it's transcoding anymore and I can start the transcode on the MBE?

I've followed the directions and checked the box for lossless transcoding, but is there somewhere I need to tell it to use that encoding?

I've been hunting around but I'm not sure where, or if, there's a place i need to specify that it uses the mpeg 2 rather than high, low, medium, or the rtjpeg-mpeg-4 selections.

Does the software automatically use the mpeg-2 selection when transcoding then? If so, what are the other options (high, low, etc) in the list for?

I found in setup/general it gives me a selection box for recording to be auto-detect, high, medium, and low. Nothing about whether to use rtjpeg-mpeg-4 or mpeg-2.

Well, the transcode fails now instead. I checked the recordingprofiles table, and everything shows up as using mpeg-4. Funny thing is that there seems to be multiple profile groups now, and two sets of values:

mysql> select * from recordingprofiles;
+----+----------------+------------+--------------+--------------+
| id | name | videocodec | audiocodec | profilegroup |
+----+----------------+------------+--------------+--------------+

29 rows in set (0.01 sec)

Before I touched anything, this table looked like:
+----+--------------+------------+------------+--------------+

+----+--------------+------------+------------+--------------+
| 1 | Default | NULL | NULL | 1 |
| 2 | Live TV | NULL | NULL | 1 |

| 8 | Low-Quality | NULL | NULL | 2 |
| 9 | Default | NULL | NULL | 3 |
| 10 | Live TV | NULL | NULL | 3 |
| 11 | High-Quality | NULL | NULL | 3 |
| 12 | Low-Quality | NULL | NULL | 3 |
| 13 | RTjpeg/MPEG4 | NULL | NULL | 4 |
| 14 | MPEG2 | NULL | NULL | 4 |
+----+--------------+------------+------------+--------------+

I followed the directions to fix the transcoding errors I was getting:
http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... dec++94210

by using the following query:
cd /myth/backup
mysqldump mythconverg > backup_before_I_updated_recordingprofiles.sql
#make a backup, always make a backup
mysql -umythtv -pmythtv mythconverg
update recordingprofiles set videocodec='MPEG-4',audiocodec='Uncompressed';
#above changes the table to have values in those fields
update jobqueue set status=1 where type=1 and status=304;
#above takes all the transcoding jobs (type=1) that have errored (Status=304) in the database

The transcoding worked, but it was using the lossy compression.

So I followed the transcoding change instructions to use lossless and it no longer works.

The same thing for me with a stock 5D1. Information Centre->System Status->Job Queue shows ERRORED for selected show.

So looking at the above and the other reference, only using the svn version of 0.19 or upgrading to 0.20 will fix this, yes?
The DVD creation works (CD/DVD->Burn DVD) and respects the cut points, but removing the Ads & dead space before carrying this out would be better.

Though, googling for transcode and IOBOUND results in the following: Ticket #1791 Stop transcode/commflag from hogging the CPU while recording/playback is in progress.
I'll try recording something and then transcoding while nothing else is happening, to see if the above is the cause of my particular problem.

This is a known breakage with R5D1.

Thanks, tjc for that info.
FYI, tried running it against a previously cutlisted recording, when neither in recording or playback modes, it failed but without IOBOUND error messages.

Ah ok, thanks.

It's not so much a problem anyway. If I don't burn something to dvd, I'd generally just delete it. If I do burn it to dvd, I use the create dvd iso which works fine.

Worst case, I could always create an iso and put it in the video section if I don't want to make it a dvd.
