I am still quite new when it come to using linux, but I know enough of the basics to get my self around.

My main issue is that I can't get Knoppmyth to use the 100 DPI fonts. When i Run

xdpyinfo | grep dots
it returns
Code:
resolution: 25x33 dots per inch

also xvidtune returns
Code:
"640x480"  0.00  640  0  0  0  480  0  0  0

I tried editing the /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 but no matter what changes I make no changes take place. The following is the Screen Section from XF86Config-4. I have 2 line commented out because I wasn't sure about syntax and Tried them each seperatly.

Code:
Section "Screen"
        Identifier "Screen0"
        Device     "Card0"
        Monitor    "Monitor0"
        DefaultColorDepth 16
#        Option "UseEdidDpi" "false"
        Option "UseEdidDpi" "FALSE"
#        Option "DPI" "100x100"
        Option "DPI" "100 x 100"
        SubSection "Display"
                Depth     16
                Modes "1024x768"
        EndSubSection
        SubSection "Display"
                Depth     32
                Modes "1024x768"
        EndSubSection
EndSection

I would like to get the fonts fixed so I can actully read what is on the screen  and GUI resolution is my secondary goal. I am having other issues but I will save them for another post. Thanks for any help anyone can provide and Just let me know if you want any more info.

The current recommnendation is to use the explicit DPI settings. This is covered in the wiki FontSizeHowTo here: http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=FontSizeHowTo
In the monitor section add:
Code:
Option "UseEdidDpi" "FALSE"
Option "DPI" "100 x 100"

Also remove any old DisplaySize settings.

Note that this is only for nvidia cards. Other cards need to use the old DisplaySize.

Also, depending on what version of Knoppmyth you are using, you might need to upgrade the display driver. This is only supported version 8756 or above.

TJC, I already have the UseEdidDpi and DPI in my config but not sure what you mean by the DisplaySize settings, do you mean remove these lines:

Code:
SubSection "Display"
                Depth     16
                Modes "1024x768"
        EndSubSection
        SubSection "Display"
                Depth     32
                Modes "1024x768"
        EndSubSection

I also have an ATI FireGL card so any nvidia stuf won't do much good, i am using Knoppmyth R5D1, I belive i had the same version installed before and the font sizes were fine, but after i installed my 500GB drive and reload KM i have been having no luck with it.

It really helps if you provide those kind of hardware details up front...

Sorry Like I said I am a noobie and I also said that if you needed any info to ask so don't be too mad :D

That Display size, is that only for Nvidia? I am currently at work and my Fiance is probably sleeping so I don't want to bug her to try it for me.

What bothers me the most though is that It was working last time I installed KM and im kinda kicking myself to remeber what I did, if anything to make it work.

I see a lot of posts that ATI is the Devil in the Linux community but I also saw posts that they have released linux drivers. I downloaded that latest they have and now its just a matter of looking up how to use them. Either way there HAS to be a way to get my text the way it should be if it worked on the exact same hardware.

I also noticed that if I play a Divx or Xvid, the image has a strange look. I want to say it looks like there aren't enough colors viewable because it has a Dithering effect going on. Not sure if there is a better explaination to what it looks like but for now I am trying not to get too many issues listed in one post. I try to keep on topic 8)

My understanding is that DisplaySize works for non-nvidia cards, but each card is different and you would have to try.

If things were good before the upgrade, do you know the screen resolution then? I have noticed the out-of-the-box screen resolution for different releases sometimes varies. You might try setting it to something like 800x600. DisplaySize would be a better fix if you can get it working though.

Ok, Since I am going to be in NY for the weekend I will research my FireGL and linux results to see what people have used for display size and see what happens, I will post my results when I return
