Greetings,
Still fairly new at this, but my R5A16 box has been running almost a year without any major hassles. Was a real breeze to set up. Now I want to attach a remote frontend and start watching video from other places in the house. One goal is to have a small, quiet box for that purpose. I have found a suitable case and a motherboard(with smartfan BIOS). I'd like to eliminate the hard drive, so I've purchased an IDE to CF adapter and a 1Gb CF card.
Running the system off the CD works great, so I don't see why it would be any more difficult to boot from CF. Has anyone out there got this to work? I've searched many forums and a lot of people have alluded to making this go, but I've yet to see some clear, step by step instructions.
I'm not a total idiot, but Knoppix/Linux is not quite my forte, either. Playing with this stuff has certainly shed a lot of light on things, tho. I've dumped my XP box for home use and made the switch to Kubuntu.
Thanks for any ideas.

-Jim

You wasted your money with the CF card. Just boot over the network (I assume your motherboard is capable of doing so). Look on the wiki for the page on diskless frontends and search the forum for nfsroot. I developed the knoppmyth_diskless_frontend.bash script to make it a breeze to set up. You will probably have to upgrade to R5D1 to get it though.
