used tuner type=-1,50 and things are seeming to work.

Now I just have to find the options for defaulting to record on video1 so I can watch normally on video0 without interruption, and a few other things.

Given those two cards 50,50 should work too. That way if you swap them around for some reason it will still work...

You'd think that...oddly, I tried that before the -1,50 and it didn't seem to work...

I have noticed one thing...my cpu isn't quite fast enough to allow me to watch while I record, or watch while commercial transcoding is happening :(

I'm probably going to give a go at overclocking it and see if it helps.

There's a few other things I want to look into now. Such as, getting the remote all configured...we really need a simpler way to setup remotes and button actions.

B@H, seems my CPU is only at ~65-75% wether I have PIP on or not, yet as soon as I turn PIP on, all I get is stuttering...

I'm assuming it's because it's just a P3-866. But...shouldn't my CPU usage jump when I turn PIP on?

Search for an old posting by me that mentions "real time" "chunky" and possibly "bandwidth" or "latency" for a long discussion of why this happens. Bottom line, it's not enough for each playback stream to get enough CPU time overall, they each need to get it within certain windows or the playback glitches. PiP is also more demanding than just playing back two streams, since there is the extra overhead of scaling the inset image and combining it with the main image.

Well, I know I get choppyness if I'm detecting commercial while watching live TV...I'm going to set those up to run at times I won't be watching or recording (normally) Out of curiousity, any idea how fast comm detection is? If I have a 1hour show, does it take an hour to detect them? Half? Just curious...

I believe I'll have my CPU power problems sorted in the next few days. My dad, the deal freak that he is, apparently has a 3800+ and mobo kicking around that isn't being used that he got cheap, and I'll be getting that, and some ram for a couple hundy. I'll just have to find a cheap PCIexpress video card from NCIX.com to go with the case I'm buying (since if I have a $200 order I get flat rate shipping this week)

Likely this case...

Any recommendation on a ~$100 PCIexpress video card that will work nicely from there?

I've been looking at this one, since the fan on the one in my workstation, is making nasty rattling noises. It almost sounds like one of those paint shakers at the hardware store...

Excellent, they have it at NCIX too.

I can get my cheap shipping on the case, and with exchange the card is only a little bit more...which I'll more than save in the shipping.

I'll be ordering this soon.
