I can't tell you how impressed I have been with the KnoppMyth install. I'm pretty sure my only remaining problem is due to my cheap capture card--as it's a symptom I remember form my various SuSE and Kubuntu installs in the past.

My system:
Athlon XP 2000+
Nvidia Geforce 6800 GT
1 GB Ram

My capture card:
KWorld Tview 878RF (using bttv with card=48 and tuner=2)

My issue is after a succesful install, "Live TV" shows the same picture no matter which channel I change to. Note that I retrieved a list of the correct channels, it just appears that my card isn't receiving the "change frequency" command.

Any help would be most appreciated.

See the troubleshooting pages here - http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=TroubleShooting

Especially this one which focuses on reasons why your card won't tune - http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=BlackScreenWatchingTV

Also how are you getting your signal? If it's coming from a cablebox the channel isn't going to get changed magically. You need to set up some kind of mechanism to control it.

Thanks for the reply. I'll go through that page and see if I can resolve it.

My connection comes straight in through coax fromt the cable company--no need for a cable box (thankfully, imo).

Go back into mythtv-setup (see the wiki for details) and poke around for silly configuration errors.

- Did you pick the riight kind of Capture Card? I believe you should have "Analog V4L capture card" for that one.

- Did you define a "Video Source" (channel lineups and listing from zap2it if you're in NA, if not, whatever your local grabber is) Did you download your listings yet?

- Under Input Connections did you associate the tuner input on the card (and only the tuner) with that Video Source? Did you leave the "External channel change command" and "Preset tuner to channel" fields blank?

This is probably a stupid question but....

When you say Live TV shows the same picture no matter which channel you select, how are you selecting channels?

Are you getting the channel display to change on screen but when you push OK it just doesn't switch? Or when you advance the channel, it just doesn't change the selection at the top?

Or when you enter the channel to which to jump, you can't get it to actually switch to that channel?

I know you said you think it seems that the card just isn't getting the change frequency command, but I want to eliminate the possibility that MythTV just isn't being told to send the change channel command to the card.

Thanks for the replies...

All of my settings seem fine--I have the card set up, channels downloaded, source chosen...

When I say 'Live TV' I mean I'm sitting at the 'Live TV' screen and using up and down keys on my keyboard to change channels. The initial channel to come up is 2 I think (a local NBC affiliate) while the image on screen (which never changes, no matter the channel selected, is actually from channel 12 (a local ABC affil)

For the time being I'm putting my PVR adventure to the side. I bought this card three-ish years ago for $30, so I'm considering going up to a Hauppage.

There might be a bit of confusion in my question.

Basically, you use the up/down keys to change channels. Do you actually push something else to get it to switch?

I use my remote, so I don't know what keyboard keys it uses, but I use the up/down arrows to change the selection and then I hit OK to actually do the change.

It's not like regular tv where you push the arrow button and it immediately switches.

But like I said, I'm just asking.
