Could someone post the transcoder setings they use for Low/Medium/High quality?

I'm using a PVR-150 to record, and my first attempt at Transcoding an episode of SpongeBob Squarepants to Low Quality went from 1.1G to 1.6G. I hear that I need to change it from rTJpeg to MPEG4, but all the settings for the 3 options (Low, Medium, & High) are the same!

Most people don't bother to transcode PVR recordings (other than for commercial cutting) since they're already MPEG2.

RTJPEG to MPEG4 is for analog "frame grabber" capture cards where you encode (using your CPU) and a fast but inefficient encoder, and then squeeze them down to a reasonable size later.

wel, I kinda figured something like that...

But for all the cartoons I record for my daughter, 1.1Gb for an episode of spongebob is abit excessive.

I am on the cartoon patrol as well: Yu-Gi-Oh, Avatar, Teen Titans...

1GB for a half-hour show is what you'd expect with average quality recording (4Mbps at 352x480, 160Kbps audio).

Solutions include getting a big hard drive, chopping out commercials, and/or transcoding to something more efficient. I currently edit commercials out (dropping it to about 700MB), then use the Myth2iPod scripts to get them to about 100MB (at 320x240). I then put them into MythVideo.

I'm running a PVR-150 as well. The defualt is 2.2G an hour. I wasn't able to get transcoding to work in 0.19, but after upgrading to 0.20, it works perfectly. You do have to change the conversion settings to MPEG4 instead of RTJPEG(I think that's what the default is). I was getting bigger files using RTJPEG. With MPEG4, it goes from 1.1G to just under 400M.
