I finally got my hd-5550 running. My next step is to get my HDTV setup. I have a ATI 9800. I also have a DVI-HDTV (YPbPr) adapter. It is made for some ATI cards. http://www.svideo.com/radeon9600pro.html. I'm stumped on what i need to do next. I'm assuming i need to get the timings for the tv, and some how get the dvi to display. As of now I get no signal on the TV when going through the dvi-hdtv adapter. Is there a "clone" or "dual" display switch I need to add?

I read alittle about the "tv-out" but I dont think that applies to this situation.

Thanks in advance!

Try some other modelines, geared toward the native resolution of the set. Check /var/log/XFree86.0.log to see what's listed under

"Validated modes:"

Those are the one that your adapter thinks it can work with.

Here's mine:

(II) NVIDIA(0): Validated modes:
(II) NVIDIA(0): "ATSC-720-59.94p"
(II) NVIDIA(0): "ATSC-1080-59.94i"
(II) NVIDIA(0): "a800x600"
(II) NVIDIA(0): Virtual screen size determined to be 1920 x 1080

When fiddling with modelines, only worry about the section for the color depth that is actually being used. And to test, you don't need to reboot. Just cycle the GDM and see.

/etc/init.d/gdm stop
/etc/init.d/gdm start

I'm assuming you get SOMETHING when booting? You should see the command-line terminal as it boots. If not, then it may be an issue other than modelines.

I have VGA lcd monitor on the vga out. There is a tv out, but it doesnt work w/ my "hdvt cable"(from a newer vid card). Then there is a DVI out. I have the DVI connected to the TV via the adapter. I can see myth on the LCD but no on tv, infact i get no display on tv at all, not even durring boot process. But If i recall correctly (under Win XP) it would not display until graphics driver was loaded, then I had tv out.

Perhaps I need to setup DVI w/ my modelines (1080i). I have an older HDTV. Should I hook up my lcd to dvi instead, get it working then switch? Or can I configure Dual support? With that adapter the "mythtv box" should jsut see it as a monitor correct? As long at timing are correct?

Also do i need to install the new drivers from ATI?

Thanks again!

Yank the VGA cable, and do a cold start with only the DVI connected.
When you have that working, search for dual-monitor stuff here and the wiki. That's somewhere between hard and impossible, depending on your equipment, from what I've read.

Ok. So can i setup the lcd on DVI port w/ the modelines? I guess what i'm asking is if i add modelines, and get everything running on the DVI can i simply swap w/ the TV and reboot?

Is there a better way to get HDTV from that card?

*update*
I looks like the DVI-component doesnt work on this card. I tried it on my x1600 and it works fine. Infact i an even get playback. But it sees it as "vesa". So strike two... Are there drivers for the x1600's yet?
