My new myth box works just fine but I have some questions about the sound.

My live TV (on the myth pc) has no sound, I assume my PVR-350 is pumping out the sound so I'll have to route that back into the sound card? Does this sound right?

When I view the videos on my Windows box, Windows Media Player has no sound and really appears to be working very hard even trying to play the mpg. But if I open Ulead Movie Studio I get a sharp picture and perfect sound--using the same Windows box and the same mpg file. Why??

Can I configure the Myth TV box to watch videos using a software decoder so I can view them while the hardware encoder is in use?

Thanks,

Abby

Hi,

You may like to try vlc as a windows media player. I use it all the time across samba sharing as it is quick & clean.

As for sound out of the 350, how things are setup maybe your problem. You are making me assume things so therefore I can't give a direct answer.
If you have tv out enable (no computer monitor used) then the audio will come from the dongle cables. To have control over the audio levels from those connections, you would have to route into line in and then use the line out of your sound card to an amplifier.

If you are using a standard computer monitor then the audio should be on the line out of your sound card.

To besure the signals can get around properly, you should open an xterm window and then run alsamixer (alt x )at the $ alsamixer

The only thing you can't do with a single tuner card is watch "live" tv. Actually all tv viewing is a recording, so therefore you simply have to go into the media folder and watch what ever is listed as available :)

The hardware decoder I believe only works for the dongle connection to the tv. The computer display is only software decode. I could be wrong, surely won't be the first time.

Thanks! That helped a lot.

Do you have any advice on getting the FM receiver going on my pvr-350?

Thanks,

Abby

Hi,

As for FM, if you check at the mythtv site, there has been some work toward that plugin. However it seems to be a "low" priority and little has been done to finish out what one kind gentleman has started a while back. I think it would be a nice feature as personnally, I watch very little tv at home. :)
