I finally decided to upgrade from R5A30.2 and try to get the 5500 I bought a few months ago working. I have a split system (1 backend and two frontends, so this was an undertaking). I have started by upgrading the backend. I have my other two tuners working (PVR350 and PVR150) but I am unable to get the 5500 working. Currently I get a black screen for about 30 seconds and then I'm dropped back to the frontend menu.

I was able to install the card under DVB, and then I added the listings for my Digital Cable (unfiltered from Zap2It). I am trying to find instructions, but there have been so many different tips over the different versions of both cards and Knoppmyth that I don't know what is current. The one thing I have done is to add cx88_alsa to my blacklist.

Any suggestions are welcome, I'd prefer to not have to install Knoppmyth again, though. Also I was able to install by leaving the 5500 out of the computer until I ran mythtv-setup.

Am I being ignored, or have I stumped everyone. I have seen that for R5C7 there were scripts to run, but I don't know if that still applies to R5D1 or not...

Okay, here's what shows up in the mythbackend log when I try and view tv on my PCHDTV 5500:

Code:
2006-11-19 23:02:21.379 TVRec(3): Changing from None to WatchingLiveTV
2006-11-19 23:02:21.384 DVB#0 ERROR - Could not find dvb tuning parameters for mplex 32767
2006-11-19 23:02:21.387 DVB#0 ERROR - Failed to get channel options for channel 811.
2006-11-19 23:02:21.388 TVRec(3) Error: Failed to set channel to 811.
2006-11-19 23:02:21.400 TVRec(3) Error: Channel: '' was not found in the database.
Most likely, your DefaultTVChannel setting is wrong.
                        Could not start livetv.
2006-11-19 23:02:21.408 TVRec(3) Error: CreateLiveTVRingBuffer() failed
2006-11-19 23:02:21.409 TVRec(3) Error: Failed to create RingBuffer 1
2006-11-19 23:02:21.410 TVRec(3): Changing from WatchingLiveTV to None

I did a search on the "could not find dvb tuning parameters for mplex 32767" but all I found was forum posts with no solutions...

I'm having the same problem but with broardcast. If I use the utilities that came with my card I can at least record with it in a console. I would like to get it working thru Mythtv

I'm still looking for help on this problem.

I think part of the issue is my channel guide. I'm using ZAP2IT's guide for the digital cable from COX, but really all I have access to is the digital cable they send over their lines (I don't have a cable box). I can access the channels from my HDTV, but they are all decimal channels (like 81.1). I don't know how to tune the PCHDTV to 81.1. Or how to get the programming for 81.1, as according to ZAP2IT the channel is 708.

I'm guessing I need to edit using the mythweb/settings/channels page, no? Well, what do I need to change? The channum, freqid, or both?

Thanks in advance for any help.

You want to setup a "Local Broadcast Listings - Antenna" lineup at Zap2It and point to that for your PCHDTV in mythtv-setup. The broadcast guide has the xx.x channels listed...

Even though they aren't antenna shows and are over cable?

That doesn't sound right, but I'll give it a try, thanks.

Yep, that's how I setup my Fusion HDTV Lite. My lineup isn't based on cable (digital or otherwise), but on the OTA channels my cable company is passing through to me. So as far as Zap2It is concerned, it's OTA.

One note: Depending on your area, you may find that you can receive more channels OTA (via antenna) than you can via QAM (over cable).

EDIT: BTW, I see you have a very similar setup to mine with the PVR-[1,3]50 as well as the HDTV tuner. I have 2 lineups at Zap2It - One for regular cable that the PVR-[1,3]50s use, the other for broadcast which covers my HDTV QAM needs. /EDIT

It's not working for me :(

It's getting 0% signal from the channels. The channel numbers are still not matching what my sony HDTV tuner comes up with. For instance, the channel for PBS HDTV in my area is listed as 8_1 coming from Zap2it for antenna broadcast, but my TV tuner lists this same channel as 81.1. Any thoughts?

When you "Scan for Channels" in mythtv-setup, check the following:

* That your "Frequency table" is set correctly (same as for your PVR-x50s)
* "ATSC Modulation" is correct (most likely QAM-256)
* Change "Channel Separator" to whatever is valid for you - Looks like _ (underscore), or . (period). Whatever shows up on the Sony tuner.

...then scan away. Number of channels you pickup depends on what your cable company passes through in the clear.

One problem I had when I setup HDTV was the splitter I was using on my cable. Cheap Radio Shack splitters, at least for me, would not pass through enough signal for some channels to be picked up. Went to the cable company and got one of their splitters, all is fine.

I'll try that, but I'm thinking that this is more likely what I need to do:

What version of KM are you using? I don't believe any of those instructions are necessary for R5D1 (or higher? Haven't tried R5E50 yet). Just scanning for channels in mythtv-setup worked for me in R5D1, and later when I added MythTV 0.20.

I'm running R5D1.

Not ready to upgrade to E yet because I just upgraded to D a month ago and I have 3 computers (One Backend and two Frontends) that would have to be upgraded...

Well, I finally got my HD Channels working. I ended up having to hack the database, but apparently that is no longer necessary with Myth .20. We'll see after I upgrade...

Here's the instructions I used, worked pretty well:
http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/Ad ... uner_Cards

(although instead of scanning for channels I used the channels.conf from this page: http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/Wo ... ble_layout)
