Mythtv users that are getting trouble from this change need to contact zap2it and let them know they've scrambled our eggs and ask them to fix it.
Send the problem reports to:
labs@zap2it.com or feedback@zap2it.com
Or go to this page and enter your feedback into their form:

On the contrary - I hope that they don't change them back - since I'm up and running with the new style of listings.
Have you run though the steps listed in my second post?

Do you have subchannels working?

Now my setup (running R5D1 with .20) refuses to 'download channels from source' (zap2it) until I run a scan from the channel setup, which finds the channels with hyphenated numbers. When I go back to input setup it will now download and set the 'starting channel' automatically. Now I run mythfilldatabase, and it says 'skipping channel Ktxa-DT 5-1' for all the DT channels.
When I go to the guide I have 'no data'
So I go in mythweb and edit the channel table... the named hypenated channels same as the 'real' channel numbers and re-run mythfilldatabase, I get data for all the channels... But no data for the subchannels, which had the same 'real channel' number, and that is only presented once.
Ymmv, but I think my problem is the Myth version I use won't download the channels unless a channel scan had been done first.
& I forgot to mention, when 'mythfilldatabase' runs and says 'skipping channel...' You go back to your channel selection at Zap2it and the skipped channels have been removed from your lineup ! Weird !

I'm not interested in rolling over and playing dead just because you did, seano. This change that zap2it just made is not what we want and we shouldn't quietly accept it.
The broadcasters have mapped their channels as 2-1, 2-2, etc rather than the UHF channel number. Thus, it's easier to simply call the channels by the same names as the broadcasters rather than let zap2it change them to something else and force us all to do a channel number conversion.
This is more of a question of "do we want the program listings to be weird?" rather than "can we make the program listings work now that they are weird?"
The other piece is that people are clearly not getting the subchannel listing data to work.
So, let's just get zap2it to unbreak what they just broke.
Send those e-mails to zap2it!

You get what you pay for... eh?
Not sure how I "rolled over and played dead."
I:
1) alerted the community that zap2it made a change
and
2) posted a the steps I took to get up and running again
I didn't have to edit one file. I used the MythUI and tools to get up again. It wasn't hard and takes far less time then rallying the troops...
My guide still lists my channels with the subchannel suffix -- it looks exactly the same as it always did to the user.
What am I missing here?
Your complain and wait tactic may make sense if there wasn't fix available. If the fix didn't work for you, let me know, maybe I missed listing a step or something.
Here's what some other folks did to fix the problem:
http://bb.labs.zap2it.com/viewtopic.php?t=1055
Looks like just updating your listings on the zap2it site and rerunning mythfilldatabase --refresh is all that is required.
My only request to zap2it would be:
if you're going to change something significant send me an email
I totally agree with you about the timing of the change and the lack of an announcement. But it's a *free* service. I'm sure that there's a pay service that's more stable... but I'm too cheap for that.
If you must contact the folks at zap2it keep it friendly... I don't want them hitting the off switch because of our misplaced sense of entitlement.

Apparently it is not so easy for everyone.
No matter what I do I still got working channels but without data guide and data guide for channels I can not tune in...for example, I can watch 9.1 but can not watch 19 and I have data only for 19.
I'm running 0.19 with hd-5500

Did you try deleting your OTA listings from Zap2it and recreating a new OTA listing?

Seano,
I've done all the things you have suggested, but still end up with a bunch of mismatched channels. I'm guessing that you may have avoided some of the problems by not erasing your original channel settings which may have kept the id numbers for the subchannels.
I cleared everything out, hoping to start with a clean slate. Now I have no way to get the id numbers back for the second and third subchannels. That is the problem that most of us seem to be struggling with.
Out of curiosity, how do your listings show up for those with multiple subchannels? Do you get three channel 5's (or whatever your NBC or ABC affiliate's number is)? When watching live TV, and you push channel 5 on your remote, which one do you get? How do you get to the others?

If you have a backup that's relatively recent you may be able to dig out your xmltvid numbers... or use that as a base to run through my steps. I don't think the OTA ATSC scan is required. I do think that the reconnect of the tuner to listing is required - as is the grabbing of the listing name. I'm still not sure what the change at the zap2it side really is - the mythfilldatabase downloaded xml database must have more than just the ATSC UHF channel number so that it can differentiate between the subchannels. Each channel has a: sourceid, xmltvid, channum, callsign, name, freqid, etc, etc tkoster wrote: Out of curiosity, how do your listings show up for those with multiple subchannels? My DT listings show as 2_1, 2_2, 4_1, 4_2, 5_1, 7_1, 7_2, 9_1, 9_2, 9_3, 9_4, 9_5, 11_1, 11_2, ....
I rarely watch live tv - but when I do I just do a channel browse or use the guide. I never figured out how to directly change channels with the number pad to channels that had an underbar.

Looks like I have the same problem--I found it out the hard way when I discovered that Heroes didn't record last night. Grr. Will try seano's fix--thanks for posting it.

sort of off topic but... FX shows reruns of Heroes a few days after the initial broadcast. My time was out of sync a few episodes ago and I was able to pick up the end of the show by going to FX --- not HD, but at least I got to see it.
AND - as for the fix, take a look at the zap2it forum link that I posted. (You'll probably have to click the link twice - once to log into zap2it; and again to get to the thread.) It seems like others have gotten back up by only:
1) change the zap2it listing
2) mythfilldatabase --refresh-all

Heres' what I did, and it seems to be working.
After deleting and re-adding in zap2it, I now had 3 sets of channels.
So I deleted everything, and re-added the lineup.
That gave me channels that wouldn't tune, but had the right xmltvid and channel ID.
(channel ID isn't exposed anywhere in Myth, BTW).
I did an OTA scan, and had a new set of channels, including subs, which didn't have the right channel ID, nor did they have the XMLTV.
Doctoring the OTA channels to have the right XMLTVID didn't help.
I'd still have one set with guide data, and another set that can actually tune a channel.
I decided that Zap2IT was going to win, no matter what I did. So I used phpmyadmin to doctor up the Zap2IT entries (channel table) so that they could tune. This involved setting the mplexid, serviceid, and atscsrcid of the Zap2IT channels, to match the OTA channels. THEN I could delete the OTA channels that overlapped (leaving the subs which Zap2IT isn't yet feeding), and now I seem to be ok.
I doctored up the subs (provided by the OTA scan) so that they have the correct XMLTVID from before, and I think they'll be ok too.
I also did some SQL updates on my "record" table to fix up "record any time on this channel" schedules. The chanid (channel ID) changed on all affected stations, so half of my schedules were in limbo.
AFAIK, right now, anyone setting up MythTV for the first time for HD will not be successful. Analog users probably aren't affected, but digital/OTA users will probably give up in frustration.
On the bright side, the channel icons came down nicely. I had a set before that I'd added manually, but these seem to have been added correctly by the mythfilldatabase.

Hey go to Zap2it and change your digital setups, they have now made the station identifiers have the minor channel numbers too. The sub channels were all un set in mine (from my last setup when they weren't available.)
I just changed them and won't see the results until I get home, but I expect this'll solve the problems....
