Hello,

I'm looking to set up a system as a DVD library and I like Mythtv where I can configure plug-ins for weather, news, old nes/mame games and such. I have no interest in messing with the live tv aspect of the program and doing a trial run of Mythtv on my Fedora machine makes me think I can't remove that out of the package.

My question is, can I configure Mythtv (knoppmyth) to run as a media player only? Kind of like a super DVD player? I know already that I can rip my movies, link to imdb and the like which is cool.

Maybe there's something else out there that fits this bill that I have not discovered.

* Short story on why - I've already had to buy the movie Spirit twice for my daughter after she taught herself how to open the DVD player. I really want to build something easy to use for the family/babysitter for all of our kid movies. Got Tivo on DTV and am pretty satisfied with that setup *

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I don't mind taking time to custom tweak a setup and am willing to research how short of reprogramming the software.

Thanks much,
T.C.

You can customize the menus to your liking, so in your case you could simply remove the menu option 'Watch TV' and other associated menus (like recordings and the like) so they don't show up. Outta sight, outta mind.

Check out http://knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=MythMenuChanges on how to go about it.

A totally different approach would be to use a mediagate mg-35. You won't get the IMDB integration, which is a nice feature, but it fits the bill of what you asked for -- a "super" DVD player.

Awesome! Thanks for that lead and the Mediagate looks really tempting too. Your advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
