I've got two problems and i'm trying to solve both at the same time.

1. When running Mythfilldatabase I am able to get the listings for some days, but other days won't download.

I'm getting the following error

Resolving datadirect.webservices.zap2it.com... failed: Name or service not known.

and during attempts for other days data this appears...

Resolving datadirect.webservices.zap2it.com... 206.18.98.160
Connecting to datadirect.webservices.zap2it.com|206.18.98.160|:80... Connected.
HTTP Request Sent, awaiting response... 401 Unauthorized
Reusing existing connection to datadirect.webservices.zap2it.com:80.
HTTP Request Sent, awaiting response... 200 OK

But it continues to download the data.

So I don't understand why the HTTP requests are all failing and going to the existing connection.. and I don't understand why some days are failing and others are not.

2. The other problem is that when I go to watch tv on the box it just gives me a black screen and then after a little wait (5-10seconds) it goes back to the menu.

When I go into the Myth Phone menu I can see my starting channel playing, however the screen is green and purple, and is by no means watchable.

I've got through the wiki entry on having a blank screen and nothing seems to work.

Any help is appreciated. I've gone throught the forum using the search menu and nothing yet has seemed to help. I'll continue to do so.

This is my second time setting up a Myth box using KnoppMyth and the first time I didn't encounter any problems.

- Hardware details?

- Connection details?

- Logfile extracts?

Ah right, sorry.

WinFast K7S 741GXMG Motherboard w/ Lan, Sound, Video
MSI Nvidia Geforce4 Ti4200-8x (Opted to not use onboard Video and use this instead)
200GB WD Caviar Harddrive
512MB Samsung OEM Ram

The Tuner I'm not quite sure, I lost the box/manual, and the tuner is not labelled with it's name.
I know it's Hauppauge, and I'm pretty sure it's the PVR-150 Model.
The following is written on the tuner, however I know this is written on many of their tuners. "WinTV card 44981 rev E199"
It came with the WinPVR cd, IR Blaster, and Remote.

Connection Details:
Using Rogers High Speed Cable.

Error Log Extracts:
Which would be of concern and how would I find them?

Kind of a critical bit of info. Luckily the logfiles will help.

Uhm, the question was how are you connecting that to the capture card... Go back to the wiki page here http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=BlackScreenWatchingTV and notice the distinctions being made.

This is also covered on that wiki page. The BlackScreenWatchingTV page contains a link to the http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=CheckingLogFiles page for just this purpose.

I know those pages have a lot of information packed fairly densely, but a bit of careful reading, and following the links will almost always pay off with the fix you need.

1) Connection type! Are you connecting "straight to the wall" or do you have a "cable box", and if so which input on the card are you using?

2) Logfile extract, diagnostic 3 from the CheckingLogFiles page. Please note the 2 spaces before END if you can't cut & paste directly into a shell session on your KM box.
Code:
sed -n '/= START INIT IVTV/,/=  END INIT IVTV/p' </var/log/messages | more

There is also a second form shown which dumps this to a file for ease of sneaker netting it. The oputput typically looks like this:
Code:

At this point I'm guessing it's borked configuration, since the TCL 2002N chip is well supported by the drivers, it's what is on the second card in my KM box. _PLEASE_ provide the requested details, and go back and read the BlackScreenWatchingTV carefully for comprehension. Note that that page was overhauled just a couple days ago, so if you printed an older version it will pay to revisit it.

Connection Type: Through a DL-604 Router. The same rounter I used last time I was running a Myth Box with no problems. I've got it running on a static ip.

As I've previously mentioned. When I go into the phone utility I can see my start channel. It appears cleaner now, but I still get the black screen when trying to watch LiveTV.

Some errors I'm getting with invidia-settings.

Code:
mythtv@mythtv:~$ nvidia-settings

ERROR: NV-CONTROL extension not found on this Display.

ERROR: Unable to determine number of NVIDIA GPUs on 'localhost:10.0'.

ERROR: Unable to determine number of NVIDIA Frame Lock Devices on 'localhost:10.0'.

The question was "Is your capture card hooked directly to the 'raw' cable as it comes out of the wall, or are you getting your video signal from a cablebox."

Also your logfile extracts clearly aren't right, so something went wrong when you copied the command.

Sorry, basic full tier cable, connected directly from a coaxial cable. I've tested the line on a television and the picture is perfect.

As far as the commands go, I ran them by connecting to the mythbox via X Server and Putty and copy and pasted them, so thats exactly what came up.

Not good. Do this:
Code:
dmesg | more

When it hits the first stop type /ivtv If you don't see something like what I posted you have a serious problem.
