Folks,
I am still somewhat of a Newbie with Myth, so be gentle
I am running KnoppMyth (unsure of exact version but is R5 previous to D1)
Zap2it, of course gives me ALL available channels even though I do not have most of them. When I run mythtv-setup, I do not see this even though I know I did it with a previous version of KnoppMyth.
Lastly, which version would you suggest I upgrade to, R5D1 or R5E50?
Thanks

Go there, modify your current lineup, and uncheck the channels you don't want. Then to speed things up (they'll go away by themselves within a couple weeks) use the MythWeb channel editor (under Settings) and delete the same ones. kmaute wrote: Lastly, which version would you suggest I upgrade to, R5D1 or R5E50?
Do a search for R5E50 and look at the hardware that people are having issues with (MCE type 2 USB remotes, ...) that we haven't completely sorted out yet. Also take a look at the R5E50 Upgrade hints and hazards posting. If you don't have any problematic hardware I'd say that R5E50 is big win. I certainly wouldn't recommend upgrading to R5D1 with R5E50 available.

Duh, I won't tell you what I do in my day job but let's just say I spend a lot of time in the /etc dir
I am currently running R5 Alpha 30.2, a little moldy

Thanks, I forgot that I could do this under my zap2it account

Thanks, I just burned a CD of E50 so barring any nasties with my HW that is the way I will go

Wow, that is crusty.
Don't forget to read through the upgrade hints before you start. A wise BOFH knows it's easier to research the gotchas first and avoid do-overs.
BTW - do you have BBS code disbabled in your profile?

I noticed a typo in the R5E50 Upgrade doc:
The tar xcvf /myth/backup/savedfiles.tar.gz line should be tar jcvf and bz2 at the end for the check_backup.sh script I downloaded to work since it is looking for a bzip2 instead of gzip archive.
Just an oversite for a BOFH (BTW my parents WERE married!)
When I do the above when I get to the DB dump, I get several differences between the live versus saved tables. Is there some magic MySQL command I need to run or is my Myth set up so old I am hosed?

Not a typo. That's why it says: Quote: If you have a .bz2 for your backup file rather than .gz use jxvf instead of zxvf in the tar command above. Below each example... kmaute wrote: Just an oversite for a BOFH (BTW my parents WERE married!) Dunno. Snarf the difference and let's see what they are. There are certain tables, like the message logs, that just don't matter. I don't think the checking has ever been tested with such an old version, at least not by anyone who could provide diagnostics.

I tend to be too linear sometimes! I saw that after I posted...
On the MySQL DB, it looks like it is looking at the mythconverg.sql file which it looks like I created on the 26th. I just reran Backup KnoppMyth and all is good.
Moving forward, Thanks!

In the way of an update, I have E50 running but still have a couple rough spots.
As I posted a moment ago on another thread, I am using the directv.pl script to take over my directv receiver. This worked (after much struggle) in the previous version and I am not sure what I am missing.
I "think" this is causing another problem where I appear to be able to record shows but they actually do not. My program guide is being populated correctly for my directv feed and I can watch live TV but when I hit enter on a show the recording options come up but when I save settings, it silently fails.
I also seem to have lost sound from the upgrade as well so any insights there would be helpful also.
Thanks in advance,
Kevin
P.S. Happy New Year!!!

Muddling along...
I now have the directv.pl script working manually from the command line by typing:
Code: ./directv.pl [channel #] >/dev/tty0
How do I get it to work in Myth? I know I need to do this in myth-setup (alt-s in Xwin environment) but it seems to be a little less obvious to me than I hoped

OK, I now have the channel change working (had it in a dir mythtv user did not like-put it in /home/mythtv...) now the only problem I appear to still have is:
Connected to database 'mythconverg' at host: 127.0.0.1 is defined, but isn't attached to cardinput
in /var/log/mythtv/mythbackend.log
Has anyone else seen this? Obviously, I still have something munged in myth. So close

Well, it looks like everything is golden around this now. For some reason mythfrontend was not coming up. Started it manually and voila!
I am still having problems with sound, so if anyone can point out how to troubleshoot I would be eternally grateful
Ask questions quick if you want any details

Kmaute,
Were you successful in getting Directv.pl script to work under R5E50? I have being toying with this since my upgrade from R5D1 (where it worked). I am trying to control a D11 box with a usb cable that had worked with this script in R5D1, but now has an error in "line 50" of the script.
