Where is the config file for VNC in R5E50? I need to know where to enable it and set the password.

Is freenx included? If so, why add VNC?

Freenx was replaced with VNC.

Thank you for the information. I thought freenx was the better, faster product?

Freenx may be better software, but I think most people (myself included) are much more familiar and comfortable with VNC.

It says

Code:
nano /etc/gdm/PreSession/Default

/etc/gdm doesn't exist in R5E50.

Oh, that bit is already taken care of. It should be started from your /home/mythtv/.fluxbox/apps file. If there's not an entry in there that says:
Code:
[startup] {/usr/bin/x11vnc -nap -wait 50 -passwd mythtv -display :0 -forever -o /var/log/x11vnc.log -bg}

Run the restore_fixups.sh script which will add it for you, then do a "pkill X11".

I added
Code:
[startup] {/usr/bin/x11vnc -nap -wait 50 -passwd mythtv -display :0 -forever -o /var/log/x11vnc.log -bg}

to
Code:
/home/mythtv/.fluxbox/apps

I still get "Failed to connect to server" when I type my Myth's IP address into TightVNC.

Any idea why this happens?

After adding the line to .fluxbox/apps, have you restarted X? Otherwise it wouldn't have known about starting vnc.

Did you verify that your router has port 5900 (standard VNC port) open and ported to the ip address of your mythbox (if mythtv is connected to a router)?

If not connected to a router (you really should be) you will have to see if your internet service provider give access to port 5900. I have heard of some restricting/closing off port 5900.

Also you have to make sure the ip address in TightVNC is the correct format, ie: http:://xxx.xxx.xx.xxx (or www.name here.com if using a url).

Hope this help, and is correct (I am quite tired right now).

Yes, I've also restarted the machine. I'm trying to access the machine from within my local network, so this isn't a router issue. I ran an nmap scan against my myth box and got the following results. VNC just isn't running.

PORT STATE SERVICE
22/tcp open ssh
80/tcp open http
111/tcp open rpcbind
139/tcp open netbios-ssn
445/tcp open microsoft-ds
6543/tcp open mythtv
6544/tcp open mythtv
10000/tcp open snet-sensor-mgmt

I also tried again after executing /usr/bin/x11vnc but got the same results.
