I just wanted to say thanks for knoppmyth! I decided to try it out on a lower end box with hauppage pvr-350 and while its far from perfect, its good enough im buying the hardware to do it right. Amazing piece of software so far. The only real problem i had was finding relevant documentation! Overall this has been jaw dropping, thanks alot.

Then how can we make it perfect? What problem/issue do you have? Did you read the pamphlet?

I'm new to linux and my knowledge pretty much doubles every few weeks. I don't think you KM developers can really change anything with your great software. The R5D1 is very good right now and I have not tried out the latest one since my new mythtv machine runs so well with R5D1. The problem is that linux is not windows and most people can't even use windows :)

One suggestion I have is to create an area in the forum where people can post really noob questions without getting flamed. I have noticed that happens in some posts. I have also noticed that some users are helpful, but tend to look down on people who don't know as if they should. This happens pretty much in all linux related forums.

Don't take my comments as a specific complaint with you guys or any specific user in here. In the few days I've been here, I have found this place to be great. Knoppmyth is the best distro for mythtv and I have tried a few others.

"its far from perfect"

Oops, i meant the MACHINE i was trying to install knoppmyth on was literally an amd 550 athlon setup with some bigfoot drives! :P

The installation was very easy with the pvr-350

The only issue i had was wading through piles of possibly outdated documentation to find the relelvant, current things i needed. It took me 1 hour to setup myth, but quite a few hours after that reading docs and using winSCP and putty wandering around to understand it enough that i could configure it better.

I am ordering some reasonable hardware tomrrow and will look forward to using this. Thanks again!

Also see the Tier 1 and Tier 2 Hardware Recommendation topics here and the http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=HardwareConfigs page on the wiki. The recommendations postings will provide "known working" recipes, while the wiki page will give you an overview of the requirements.
