I have installed a new system on a VIA EPIA EN1200 and run it together with koppmyth version R5D1.

There exist only one problem. The cpu usage is 100% when playing a recorded tv program and the picture is not smooth. I have tried different mpeg decoders without any successes.

When running mplayer as a standalone application the system displays the same mpg file with a very low cpu usage (30%).

Is there any suggestions how to solve this problem?

My best guess is that you my not be running the openchrome video driver and are running some type of compatibility driver forcing everything to run in software mode. Do you have atleast 512 Meg RAM? Check your recording profile and bitrate (maybe lower them). You cold do 480x480 at 2200 bitrate and see how that does.

Do a backup and auto upgrade to R5E50. Please report your findings.

mrq - I was just looking at Logic Supply and mulling over the purchase of one of those boards - were you playing back a SD or HD recording?

I'm very interested in knowing how this line will perform on a HD playback. I was hoping to upgrade my 2 front ends with either the EN or newest EX line coming out.

The only thing that's nagging me is whether the 1625 HDTV chip will handle the load since processor is only 1.2 or 1.5GHz

If everything pans out I'd like to build a frontend/backend and submit it for KRP certification.

Thanks,

Anthony

Hi

Thanks for the support.
I have tried to lower the bitrate but without success, I’m now gong to try to install version R5E50 instead.

My hardware is the following:

Motherboard VIA EPIA EN1200
512 MB memory
TV-Card PVR-150
250GB SATA disc

The cpu usage was more exactly
10 % when only recording
100 % when watching tv

28 % when watching the same recording with the command
#mplayer /myth/tv/1012_20061230130800.mpg

90 % watching a tv recording in mythtv (not smooth)

30 % Watching tv with the following command
#mplayer /dev/video

Make sure MythTV is set to use XvMC.

I have now installed version R5E50 and everything works well.
There were some issues to configure xorg.conf (it was not autoconfigured when a new version is installed)

I have also tried to use different decoders XvMC and Standard but both seams to works.

CPU usage is now approximately 50 % when recording and viewing at the same time.

Thanks for the help

I made the following changes to get it up and running. I guess there are more parameters that needs to be configured to get everything optimal, but this was enough for me to continue the installation.

1. When version R5D1 is installed take a copy of XF86Config-4 (this file exist in the backup that you take when following the instructions in the link http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=13108
2. Install the new version R5E50
3. Copy the file xorg.conf.in to xorg.conf in the directory /etc/X11
4. Copy the sections “Monitor” from the old file (XF86..) to the new.
5. I replaced the "Screen" section with information from the old file
6. In the “Device” section replaced the text “@@XMODULE@@” with “via”
Note : Problems are logged in the file /var/log/Xorg.0.log.
7. Change the default keyboard language to a preferred language (default is “de” ) in the section “Inputdevice”
8. Save and reboot

I don't understand the need for step 3. Our scripting should have taken care of step 7. I guess we'll need to take a greater look at that... Can you please provide a link to your motherboard.

Thanks,

Cecil

The problem was almost solved with the xorg.conf.

I have earlier used my LCD display with an VGA port.
When I tried to the system connected to a TV there are problems again.
I can't get X working. I guess there some miss configuration in the xorg.conf, but I can't find the problem.
How should it be configured to work with a tv (s-video)?
