Please backup the db before updating.

The debs are ready! There are going up on a couple of the mirrors. I'd like to get a few folks to test them out before I make a general annoucement. There is no longer a mythtv-x86 or mythtv-x86-xvmc. The base mythtv debs now includes native ALSA and LIRC and is called mythtv-x86-lirc. mythtv-x86-lirc-xvmc is still available and built against nVidia's 4363 drivers(as it was before). For those not in North America, updating should be straight forward. If you'd like to test the debs, please email me(send to my linkline account NOT yahoo) no PMs. The password to acess the db as the mythtv user has been changed to mythtv. Please use webmin to change this(updates only, R4V4 is set). Also using webmin, browse the program table and delete the title_pronouce column. I'll be stepping out at about 5:15 PST on 5/28/04. Please don't send a request to test after 11:59 PM PST. R4V4 is almost ready and should be start hitting the mirrors by Sunday.

Please backup the db before updating.

Special note:The mythtv deb was compiled to take advantage of O_STREAMING.. R4V2's kernel isn't patched for O_STREAMING. I don't what effect this may have...

Works like a charm!

I upgraded my frontend-only knoppmyth install more or less as follows:

#vi /etc/apt/sources.list

add

then..

#apt-get update

#apt-get install mythtv-i686-lirc

Then I edited my mysql.txt file to point to my backend, verified the db password, then went about updating the plugins..

#apt-get install libtiff3g-dev mythnews mythdvd-i686 mythweather-i686 mythvideo-i686 mythgallery-i686 mythmusic-i686 mythgame-i686

Once all that's done, I ran

#ldconfig

and everything's good to go. Of course, you'd need to choose your architecture (i586 / i686), and whether or not to include xvmc. Again, this was a frontend only upgrade.

I was lucky enough to be able to test the debs last night for 0.15 upgrading from a 0.14 R4V2 system. The upgrade went flawless. I had already upgraded to Datadirect based on the posts in another thread, so that did not give me any issues. My system is a PVR-250, Nvidia MX440 based system. It only took about 5 minutes to complete the entire install (although I have a fast system and good internet connection).

Thanks again to the KnoppMyth team - you could not ask for an easier setup and system.

After following the directions to upgrade to 0.15 I get the following error when I run mythtv-setup

> Unable to open database:
> Driver error was:
> QMYSQL3: Unable to connect
> Database error was:
> Access denied for user: 'mythtv@localhost' (Using password: YES)

Any idea?

Thanks,
Mike G.

Well, that was the problem, but not as you reported. I changed the password to 'mythtv', but mysql.txt still had the old password . The problem is that it looks like I'm still running .14! Grrr.. I'm not sure what happened, but I guess I'll end up waiting for r5 .

*EDIT* Problem solved. I had a bad path in my deb sources! Doh!

I also had to change the DB password back to the old one in /usr/share/mythtv/mythweb/config/conf.php and restart apache (as root run - /etc/init.d/apache restart) so that the web interface would work. Anybody run across other places this needs to be fixed?

Oh, and according to the MythTV "Installing and using ..." pages there's supposed to be a script (mkiconmap.pl) or an xml file (master_iconmap.xml) that you need to get the icons for your stations... However all Google turns up for either of those is the MythTV page itself. Here is the link - http://www.mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO.html#toc5.4

Mgordon:

Did you use webmin to go into MySQL to change the password for the MythTV user as posted in the directions? When I did the upgrade, I followed the steps exactly as posted and did not have any problems. Although this morning it looks as though I am having some sort of datadirect issue - not related to KnoppMyth.

tjc: That script comes with a full install of XMLTV - something that I am pretty sure is not included in the debs. There are a ton of posts about icons in this group as well as the main mythtv group. I took the high road and hand input the paths to the icons into the database. Very easy with webmin. Your icons from 0.14 are still in their original place in your home directories (I think that is where they are).

Quick check :

The "Please read this (MySQL 4 is installed) " and ldconfig steps, are these only for North American users (I assume that this is just for DataDirect ??

I've never upgraded using apt-get before. Is the list of packages that Ashlar used all that I need to upgrade? I notice that Ashlar didn't upgrade XMLTV. Isn't that necessary?

I guess my real question is what are all of the packages I need to upgrade on a backend/frontend system?

Thanks,

If you're in North America, you don't need to upgrade XMLTV. If you're using all the modules then upgrade all the modules.
Code:
apt-cache search myth
Will tell you know what packages are available.
