Hi, I just downloaded KM last night, installed it this morning and was watching tv in about 20 minutes! I have tried to install mythtv in the past with no luck (probably my own fault) but I just acquired a 2nd pc to install it on, so I downloaded KM and it's great. I have some questions tho. Here is my hardware setup:

2.66ghz P4 machine
1 gig ram
40 gig hd (right now)
nvidia geforce 6600 gt agp video card
ati tv wonder pro pci tuner card

I see that I need a remote control for this machine. Which would be the best as far as cost vs performance? I have a 160gig hd I want to put in the box, will it recognize both and save recorded shows to both? or is just one or the other?

What would I need to connect this box to the tv now? cables, etc?

Does anyone foresee any problems with this hardware configuration?

Thanks in advance.
Charles

SteamZap well supported http://mythic.tv/index.php?cPath=21_31& ... 20123cf750

ATI remote wonder works well.

Yes, Setting up LVM is probably your best bet. Should be pretty easy if you don't have a lot of recording on the existing drive yet.

http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=LvmHowTo

LVM is much easier to setup at the initial install, but don't want to reinstall use the Manual Install method to add the 160GB.

Go for the highest quality input on your TV and highest output on your video card, DVI, VGA, and svideo.

The setup can vary from DVI to Svideo so is dependents on what you are using.

That hardware is borderline for HD, but I don't see you having a HD tuner. I am really surprised you said you were watching TV, the ATI AIW tuners are not supported AFAIK.

You don't necessarily need a remote. One of my frontends is driven exclusively with a wireless keyboard/trackball. Didn't the ATI Wonder come with a remote?

Take a look through http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=8264&highlight=add+hard+drive and the links provided therein. Depending on your Linux knowledge this will be anywhere from extremely simple to moderately difficult.

Wouldn't have the foggiest without knowing what connectors you have on your 6600GT and your TV.

I didn't do anything, I just downloaded R5E50 last night, installed it this morning, and it worked. Must be my l33t pc building skills. :D

Did your 6600 come with the dongle that has the rca, svideo, and component output? If that did then you can hook any of those up to your tv if you have an appropriate input. It's just like hooking up a dvd player :D

I'd go with LVM. The newer scripts make it very easy to setup and maintain. I use a 200gb x 2 setup in my master backend/frontend and it works pretty well.

What tuner type did you have to add in MythTV-setup?

The card has a connexant (?) chip on it? Mythtv saw it as a cx800 or 8000 or something like that. I can check it tonite when I am at home.

I am having a few issues with this install....

1 - I can't get my program guide to download. I have put in my zap2it.com login and password, but when I run mythfilldatabase, it gives me errors that it can't login. Is there a file somewhere I can look at to make sure I typed it in right or re-enter the info?

2 - KM seems to be ignoring my on board SoundMax audio. Anybody have issues with this in the past?

Thanks
Charles
