Im thinking of connecting my FX5200 to my HDTV and I have a few questions:
-right now I'm using a 20 foot s-video cable. Does anyone know if its ok and possible to run a DVI cable 20 feet?
-on a fresh install of R5D1 do I need to configure or install any drivers or should it just work right away?
-how do I know its putting out a HD signal? By looking at xorg.conf will something like "TVStandard" "HD1080p" be there or do I need to modify this file?

Mine is 12 or 15 feet (DVI) and worked ok. Component should work though, but you'd need a converter box.

You'll need to tweak your modelines, giving you 720p and/or 1080i modlines.
Try some of the ones on the wiki.

A 20' DVI cable should not be any problem at all. Many projector systems use DVI cables that are approaching 100 ft or more!

You will most definitely have to tweak your xorg.conf file as you will be going from svideo "tvout" to a monitor output (DVI). There is plenty of information around of creating a proper xorg.conf files so I will not go into it here.

20' shouldn't be a problem I'm using a 25' cable with no issues and I have used up to a 50' DVI Cable without a problem. Never had a need for longer but many others have used even longer.

Best place for long cables is monoprice.com

Good quility at a great price.

This is simply not true. While it is true that most projectors now have DVI inputs, most projectors are still run VGA. I know, it's what I do for a living.

The DVI spec only requires a good signal at 5m. That is not to say that you can't run a longer cable. However, it may or may not work. As you might exect, the quality of the cable and the strength of the signal the DVI port puts out are both factors.

If a long DVI cable is required (and is doesn't work correctly), I would suggest something like this:
http://www.gefen.com/kvm/product.jsp?prod_id=3008

Or, if money is no object, there are DVI cables that are fiber optic, the ends of which have converters in them (electrical-optical).

My hardware is setup up and ready to go so im wondering which modeline
to use for my FX5200. I read the post at h**p://www.entechtaiwan.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2170&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=kv36hs510&start=0 (last post) that a good modeline for my Sony KV36HS510 is: 880x664=880,88,88,88,664,26,1,59,51545,1
I've also read that it might be a better idea just using a standard resolution, some like 1280x720, 1366x768 or 1920x1080 at knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=XModLines

I don't want to take any chances damaging my tv so I'll hold off for a bit.
