Apparently there is supposed to be an option to remove recordings from the database when they're deleted to make space for new recordings. However, this option doesn't exist in R5D1, even with the 0.20 update. Does anyone know if it's in R5E50?

It is working on my R5D1 & 0.19 setup. I dont remember needing to do anything to turn it on, but I may have.
On my system when I create a recording schedule it is set by default to autoexpire, and if is something I value highly I turn that off (in "Store Options" I think.)
Have you filled the harddrive yet?

I'm not in front of any of my KM boxen at the moment, but IIRC autoexpire is enabled by default and is working on my R5D1 + 0.20 system.

I know that autoexpire works. However, it doesn't work correctly. In the new myth, there's an option for it, but I can't find that option at all in R5D1. Take the following scenario.
I have episodes of a show that I haven't watched yet, so Mythbusters. My hard drive is full, so they get autoexpired. Now they get repeated a lot, so this is no big deal. I'll jus' watch them next time they're on. In R5D1 I can't do this, as the autoexpire only deletes the episode. It's still listed as having been recorded in the database, so it'll never record again unless I manually go in an' fix it.
Now the option added in the new myth is to have myth remove the show from the database when it gets deleted. So that if the show comes on again at a later time, it'll rerecord. Because presumably, if the show autoexpired, it's because I didn't have a chance to watch it, but I want to watch it, or I wouldn't have recorded it in the first place.
Make sense now?

I'm not in front of my box so I'm going from memory but it sounds like you need to change you duplicate matching policy for that show to only look in existing recordings instead of existing and previously recorded. That should allow an auto-expired recording to re-record.

That doesn't work either. I only want auto-expired shows to rerecord, not any deleted show.
Like I said, it's an added feature in myth. I just want to know if it's in R5E50.
http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/Us ... e_Settings
If you go to that link, it's the last item in the table labeled "Global Auto Expire Settings". However, if you look in R5D1, it's not an available item in the gui.

Yes, that makes much more sense vs. how I read your first post, that made it sound like you were having a problem getting things to autoexpire. I don't know the answer to your question, I'm sure someone will come along with an R5E50 setup...

I just did a quick search through the "settings" table and I don't see any new setting with the word "expire" in it (still only five). So it doesn't look like this setting is there.
I found the setting "RerecordAutoExpired" by searching through the Myth Wiki page about the "settings" table. It might work to manually add this to your "settings" table with a value of "1" to enable it. I've added drive space to my system so I wouldn't be able to test it, but maybe you can give it a shot. Though it looks as though the MythWeb interface for the "settings" table doesn't have any provision for adding a new setting, so you would have to use some other method (phpmyadmin, sylog, webmin, etc) to add the field.

Though it is possible that this setting won't work optimally until MythTV v.21. It looks like that is the version that adds the "watched" flag for recordings. Optimally, myth would only rerecord autoexpired recording that were not watched. Though I am not sure if this is how the "RerecordAutoExpire" would work once the "watched" flag is in use.

And from the release notes from mythtv .18 it looks like this setting was added way back in April, 2005.
