When I go to watch TV, I get a black screen for about 20 seconds then MythTV's menu comes back up. When I scan for channels, it works just fine. I run it through my digital cable box before it gets to the media center because I don't think my hardware can handle digital cable (my TV tuner card is a Hauppauge that I got second hand....never have been able to figure out exactly what model it is) so I only need one channel for now. Sill, I'd like to be able to record that one channel, and eventually I'm going to pick up a card that can handle the digital signal. Anyway, anyone have any idea what could cause this?

See http://wiki.knoppmyth.net/index.php?page=BlackScreenWatchingTV What type of tuner did you select in mythtv-setup?

Don't do that. See my post in http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=13332&highlight= (Ignore the stuff about the HDTV tuner)

No analog tuner will handle digital signals. There are plenty of folks here using their KM boxen with a digital STB, search the forum for your particular unit.

BTW, try running dmesg | grep -i hauppauge from the command prompt for a hint on what type of Hauppauge tuner you have. You'll need to know what it is to resolve #1
